Ive read the whole thread. But somehow I missed where you said *exactly* what you did. Could it actually be in another thread?

Since it’s a known bug for almost everyone, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It’s just an aesthetic issue and will most likely be fixed in October’s Patch Tuesday. :crossed

Are there any gambling books taking odds on that?

(I hope that those annoyances will be fixed tomorrow, 8 October, but I'm not betting on that.)

its irrelevant anyways. i have machines that i upgraded without that issue. and i have a machine i purposely recreated it on with the assistant/kb manual install. my post #72 shows that it is a glitch in windows and that size isnt even present when scanned with alternate software

The 8.63GB doesn't get included in a Macrium backup image so it's just a bug in the calculation

Could well be...
and according to MS:
“With checkpoint cumulative updates, the update file level differentials are based on a previous cumulative update instead of the RTM release. Cumulative updates that serve as a checkpoint will be released periodically. Using a checkpoint rather than RTM means the subsequent update packages are smaller, which makes downloads and installations faster. Using a checkpoint also means that in order for a device to install the latest cumulative update, the installation of a prerequisite cumulative update might be required.”

Thus, we will still get updates (obviously), which means traces will still be left behind (to eventually clean up). I'm sure MS will address this and fix it ASAP... who knows, might even be fixed by tomorrow.

Very unlikely, as there are some not having this issue.

Yup same experience here. Although @thecaretaker mentioned earlier in this thread that they were able to roll it back. “I have uninstalled Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5043178)” I’d be curious what the methodology was

Well guess i'll wait and see if a future update fixes this problem.

If not then later Clean Install either when i change out this Desktops Boot M.2, or Before i change out this Boot M.2, and then just clone to the Newer Faster Boot M.2 in the future

Guess updating with Update Assistant maybe wasn't such a good idea, but thats what i decided to do on October 1st lol

Many of us having the problem updated by mounting iso. So whether using Update Assistant or not will still trigger the same problem.

My only computer not affected is the clean installed one.

I am having the same issue on my laptop after patch Tuesday. I used the media creation tool & made ISO & mounted it & did my upgrade today with command prompt to bypass the check as my CPU was not supported & then I installed the three windows updates after i upgraded to 24H2 & this Windows Update Cleanup of 8.63GB will not go away & tried all of these suggested things here & none of them worked. Other issue I noticed when I run a /SFC SCANNOW it finds errors & fixes them & i run it again after it fixes & it does it again fixes it. There is issues with this release for sure.

I read from one source that the cumulative preview update (KB5043178) was pushed twice, which could explain the non-deletable 8.63 residual problem. Honestly, I don't remember if it updated twice, but that suspicion does make some sense.
