When buying a new computer it's cheaper, in the long run, to get the OS (and MS Office if you need it) included.

Not true. There is no time limit to run it unactivated. It does not even nag you. That died out with advent of Windows 10.

However, strictly speaking, it is against EULA to run Windows without activation.

To all guys on this thread, I recommend you read replies by @NavyLCDR - he really knows exactly how licencing works, and in particular digital licencing.

Yes, you can run Windows without activation, but some settings (such as Personalization) are disabled until you activate. Also the performance drops gradually to annoy you and be forced to activate eventually.

You don't need the disc actually. You can just buy a key only and download the installer from MS or any trusted site or use the disc you already have.

Since you already have a Windows 11 disc use it to install Windows 11 on any computer. Then use a valid key to activate.

I don't know where you are getting your information from but there is no evidence to support either a 30 day trial period nor a degradation in performance if not activated.

I haven't confirmed it with Windows 10 and 11, but it is true for Windows XP, Vista and 7. If you don't activate after the grace period performance drops to force you activate. I remind you that any Windows 7 or higher key can be used to activate Windows 10/11 until it has reached the maximum number of allowed activations.

Even this is inaccurate. On ealier versions, Windows eventually went into Reduced Function Mode where certain functions were disabled. It waa not a reduction in performance as such but a reduction in functionality.

Windows 10 has been out for nearly 8 years now. Don't you think regulars have tested this?

win 10 is on my old pc and win 11 on my current pc,if i update the mb would it then install win 11. the pc has good specs just the mb,,,,,thank's for the advice

The OS is as stored on attached hard drive. That will not change unless you reinstall OS and you can choose either.

Note: pc will become unactivated and you will need to reactivate it.

There is no need to spend any money to make your computer Windows 11 compliant. You can bypass compatibility check, see respective thread, and install Windows 11 on any 64-bit computer that can run Windows 10 64-bit. The restrictions set by Microsoft on purpose to force us upgrade our systems or replace them. See my test laptop (first system specs). It has only a dual core 64-bit CPU and 4GB RAM, no TMP 2.0, no UEFI firmware, no Secure Boot and it runs Windows 11 on Legacy BIOS and MBR partitioned SSD. My main computer (second system specs) has better hardware but again is unsupported. It runs Windows 11 perfectly well and with better performance than it was running Windows 10 64-bit about one year ago.
