Windows 10 Cumulative Updates still coming?

I have an ancient (20 year old) 32 bit Dell desktop, which originally ran Windows XP, upgraded it to Windows 7, then Windows 10. It isn't used for much other than downloading email at this point. I am running a local account, have not signed up for any extended support. I know that as an x86 system there's no option for Windows 11, and it's so old that it's extremely slow now, I expect to decommission it.

Windows Update reports that my version of Windows, 22H2, is End of Support, as expected. However, I have still received updates after October 14, 2025, including Cumulative Updates for Windows 10 22H2 for x86 systems" on November 1st and again today. What are these updates providing? Thanks in advance!

No. Windows 10 is now EOL and unsupported. Your options are to move to Linux or upgrade to Windows 11.

ESU is for extended security updates. Microsoft won't provide new features or bug fixes for Windows 10.

The updates were KB5066791, which was the last release without Extended Security Updates and KB5071959, which is described as an "Out of Band" update to fix something that Microsoft broke that would interfere with being able to subscribe to ESUs.

Correct. KB5071959 contained no new security fixes, just the ones from the October update at end of support.

This update is cumulative and includes security fixes and improvements from the October 14, 2025, security update (KB5066791), in addition to the following:

This update addresses an issue in the Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Update (ESU) enrollment process, where the enrollment wizard may fail during enrollment. After applying this update, consumer devices should be able to successfully enroll in ESU using the ESU wizard.

KB5071959 Windows 10 Out-of-band Update build 19045.6466 (22H2) Nov.11

There will be no more updates for the Win10 OS (unless you enrol for ESU) but what everyone will continue to get will be the AV updates for Defender.

Microsoft will also continue to provide Security Intelligence Updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus through at least October 2028.

There is an Work-Around for the "No Windows 10 Updates" problem - no need to buy the ESU.

If you go to the link below and use it on Win 10 you will see that the Win 10 updates DO COME DOWN FROM MICROSOFT, but they are Hidden. I have used this utility wushowhide.diagcab to install all the hidden Updates.

I have been using it the day after the Update day (2nd Tuesday of the month) and have updated three Win 10 machines. All you do is look for the Hidden Update that you want to install, check the checkbox and it installs just fine. I install the smaller updates first and then install the larger updates that are likely to generate a re-boot. I don't see anywhere where anyone has posted this work-around, but it definitely DOES WORK on Win 10. Good Luck !!
