Ican still use windows 10 safely on my other older computer correct?
Windows 10 support is ending on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, feature updates, or technical support for Windows 10. Users are encouraged to upgrade to Windows 11 or explore alternative options like the Extended Security Updates program from Microsoft.

In my personal opinion, unless you get support from MS directly I would either transition to Win11 or Linux which are both scheduled to get updates going forward.

Without those updates, you could be at the mercy of hackers and other bad actors.

...and even then, I would still be hesitant to stay on a Win10 machine that is regularly on the internet.

Again, my personal preference.....

The Consumer ESU program for Windows 10 is for just one year, extending support until October 2026. The 2nd and 3rd years of ESU are only available to commercial customers.

However, MS will continue to provide everyone, whether on ESU or not, with AV definition updates for Defender for at least the next 3 years (and probably long after that, Windows 7 still gets AV updates to this day).

Ten Forums | Prepare for Windows 10 end of support by moving to Windows 11 today

Personally I'm going to enrol my remaining Win10 machines that are unsupported for Windows 11 in ESU for the next year. After that I'll consider upgrading them to W11 with one of the known workaround for unsupported devices.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
If your computer meets the hardware minimum requirements and can be upgraded now, why not just do it? Rather than meet the server slowdown of October from other procrastinators.
Remember, if you don't like 11, you can always revert back to 10 for 10 days after updating.

It has been discussed what alternatives there are if your computer doesn't meet the hardware requirements.

When I have doubts about an older machine, or if I simply want to do a sanity check to see if Win 11 will work fine on a machine, I do this:

1) Make a complete disk image backup of the machine first.

2) Perform a clean install of 11 just to see if it will get along with the machine. Make notes of any special steps or out of the ordinary steps I have to take on that machine.

3) Restore the backup.

Now at least know whether that machine can be expected to run 11 or not and you know how to do a clean install should you need to do so. Just keep your notes until ready to actually upgrade or clean install.

I just did it for FREE.

I have an 10-year old HP AIO with an Intel 4th gen processor with secure boot, but no TPM. I have recent backups of both Windows 10 and Windows 11. I just did the enablement package to update it to windows 11 25H2. I'll do an image of Windows 10 after the final October updates. I already have the ESU program. If I don't like how windows 11 is running, I can always go back to 10. My other 2 machines have windows 11.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
