Windows 11 22H2 (OS Build 22631.4169)
I started having problems updating files from my desktop to my laptop using robocopy on 09/27/2024. These are workgroup computers on my local LAN and the ethernet on both is set to private, not public. I performed a clean boot on my desktop and the problem was no longer there. After the process of elimination, I discovered that the issue only manifested itself when NordVPN.ese (application, not service) was enabled. In addition to the robocopy issue, I could no longer access my laptop in File Explorer. It prompted me for network credentials with the error "The username or password is incorrect".
When I have the NordVPN running, but disconnect or pause it everything works as expected. Should I expect this behavior when connected to a VPN?
Forgive me if I'm just stupid, but I hope this will help someone else.

In addition to the robocopy issue, I could no longer access my laptop in File Explorer. It prompted me for network credentials with the error "The username or password is incorrect".

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙏

I keep coming across this issue, not just here.

There are two reasons (that I am aware of) that may cause this.
Disabling pin login on the laptop could fix

  • There has been a report of bugs when using RDP, they’re is related to Pin login.
What I do find that has helped me and others I have talked to:
  • If the remote computer you are trying to connect/login to is using a Pin and not password login, you will possibly need to jump on the laptop and sign out.
  • Then sign back into the laptop using that computers Windows User/Password.
  • Now try to connect again with remote desktop (or your preferred method) from your PC.
    • You should only need to do this once, future connections should work even if the remote computer is using a pin.

  • I think in short: Temp disable Windows Hello and login to laptop with the user/pass
It’s going to sound dumb the way I explain it (for lack of know a better way to do so)
By logging into the laptop with a user pass, you are reminding the laptop of what it’s user/pass is. Because if it doesn’t know it’s own user/pass, it can hardly allow a remote computer to use them as credentials. Yes in my experience after using a Pin, either from get go install or after a long absence, a PC can disassociate the user/pass. I don’t know why, it’s just something I have come across personally and with others.

It is a possible fix.
It may very well be something else entirely.

I can’t advise with the Robocopy issue sorry, I use FreeFileSync.

That did the trick! Logged onto laptop with fingerprint and everything works as expected.

Again, much thanks!
