I did a clean install of Windows, that was the only real option, not really a solution to the problem.
Just after reading the title, I was gonna suggest that, but I didn't want to crush your spirit.
If you haven't done anything really weird to your comp and the In-Place doesn't work... go straight to clean install.
I would just put a 2TB HDD in there to store things, and backups on.
Then via the backup software bootable media, you can access the backups even if Windows won't boot.
I got tired of trusting MS so I just became a backup junky.
