Windows 11 REALLY sucks in performance compared with Window 10

If a user has no specific software needs (only runs on windows) then Linux will suit almost anyone nowadays,.. but if you use any windows specific software and can't be bothered with the chew of learning alternatives.. there is only windows..

It's true, if it were not for the couple of mission critical Windows only applications Windows would be a fraction of what it is now. I remember watching a sweaty Steve Ballmer jumping up and down screaming "Developers, developers, developers!" thinking he was nuts, but he was right. It's the Windows developer's and their proprietary Windows software that is keeping Windows relevant today. Not Windows itself.

I just know it has 3 large fans blowing air into tiny laptop bottom vents, and it gets significantly warmer without it. Plus it makes a nice white noise sound.

W11 performs fine for me! You just have to bend it to your will in a few places!

Am am no W11 fanboy, W10 was a system with (for me) better fitting UI, but I have no complaints at all about the performance of Windows 11.
And the UI I have bend to my wishes by means of Windhawk (and some other UI tweaking apps).

Because I said your computer isn’t acting right, based on my experience deploying thousands of copies of Windows 11, I’m a fanboy?

Speaking from an IT standpoint, I know some organizations do a lot of stupid things on the corporate IT side that the local IT (me) have no control over.

For example,

My corporate IT for some reason has a zillion tools running in the background on every user machine that tries to keep software up to date, nags you about rebooting once a week, monitors people, etc etc.

I tested all the garbage they pushed on us and on a clean install the cpu is usually at 15%

And they rolled all of this out when we rolled out windows 11, so the timing is similar which makes people think 11 is slower.

I do personally think windows 10 is much faster than 11 on the same hardware, but not so drastically different that it's extremely noticeable.

Also HP has been terrible with bios for that model as well as newer ones with the intel pro. There was a bios update that released that helped the fan speed and heat generated among other things. HP bios are a buggy mess right now.

For example the HP ZBook Power 16" G11 Mobile Workstation PC's bios version 1.07.01 was causing intermittent bsod because of it interacting with the build in sd card. Regardless if an sd card was inserted or not. Reverted back to previous bios version fixed it. Had to lock the bios version. This was last year and still has not been fixed to my knowledge despite me reporting it to them.

Just tried launching the calculator app on my Win 10 Lenovo t440s, and then on Win11 on my 'new' secondhand Lenovo t480s.

In the first case (Win 10) I get as mentioned above a blue rectangle in which the calculator GUI is then rendered.
In the second (Win 11), it's just 'there'.

Ok, the first has a SATA SSD, the second, nVME.

Both have similar startup programs running.

Exactly! I've been running Win11 since the first testing was released. I haven't looked back

I honestly can't say if Win11 if slower than Win10. I just upgraded last year, but it was on new and much faster hardware all around. It was a clean sweep, hardware and software. I'm more concerned about the bugs and the invasive AI crap than the speed difference.

Yep, that got a little smile from me as well. It's been at least ten years since my boot drive was an actual rotating disk.

@tashev2078 My experience with Windows 10 led me to using Windows 7 Pro far longer due to my not liking Windows 10 or the bloated, laggy performance.

On the other hand, some of those same PCs ran Windows 11 faster and better (and these were not PCs that were supposed to run Windows 11). I will say it did take some tweaking and turning off some features so that I tightened up the privacy for the end-user, turning off AI, etc.

The end result was a reliable, quick, Windows operating system that I liked. I'm guessing that you're younger than some of us in here, and you're maybe are a "fanboy" as you put it of some kind or another.

Based on my personal experience here in the forum, having posted, read & participated in many discussions, I think you'll find many with an extensive wealth of computer / IT experience / sys admins / PC builders / and very experienced end-users.

I don't think your term "fanboy" applies to the people I've interacted with here.

I only have one Windows 10 computer left. My other computers all have Windows 11 now.
But when I get on my 16 year old (GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD7 / Intel Core i7 950 Processor) Windows 10 computer, it always seems to be faster for me. But I only do basic tasks on it these days.

I actually had a dual boot fort a short time with Win 11 and Win 10 and ran some very basic benchmarks and was 100% getting better performance on Windows 11. But that was several years ago so it's possible that things may have changed.

Also, as noted, these were very basic tests, nothing in depth, no gaming.

I'm sure that results may vary.

I tried Windows 11 twice ( Enterprise 22H2 and LTSC 24H2 I believe they were) with the intent of giving it a good chance to grow on me. Neither time could I stomach it more than 2 hours after install and configuration was complete. EVERYTHING about it is just terrible by comparison. I had the same laggy, sluggish feeling each time. Installed on my own fairly modern and very lean, fast (for the hardware) PC. This is even after hours of "speed" tweaks and disabling spying, transparency effects, Defender, System Restore, etc. etc. etc., same as I do for Windows 10. All that is before I even start talking about the gawd awful UI changes and Santa's list of new annoyances. I mean they've turned setting program defaults into a massive chore even.

I think most folks who say Windows 11 is as fast or faster than Windows 10, are comparing a fresh, clean Eleven install with their tired, old, bloated up, Ten installs, jam packed with "start with Windows/auto updater" junk, not two fresh side by side installs. I do clean installs, then immediately image the drive and restore images often, so my OS is always "fresh" installed. Usually no more than a week "old". Windows 11 runs/feels like Windows 10 with 2 demanding games running minimized in the background at all times.

I also have Linux installed (dual boot, separate, independent drives) and ready to go in preparation for when Windows 10 is no longer viable. Windows 11 is an ugly, bloated, spyware infested, invasive, spaghetti coded pig. I could/would not use it even if it was twice as fast as Windows 10 and they paid me $50 a month.
