Congratulations Microsoft, you've done it again!!
As of January 1, 2022 sign onto Microsoft Solitaire Collection. You will be able to sign in ok.
Now, try to connect to Daily Challenges and you will get this error: see attachment.
Obviously, this error is incorrect!!
To prove the point, go into EVENT: Two Game Tango Mini; you will be able to play all games there.
This connection also requires an Internet connection which it acquires with no issues.

Microsoft: you need to be more careful when making changes to this app (and any other app).
My suspicion is that the error is misleading; an Internet connection HAS been achieved, but retrieving data from an internal database has occurred.
Why aren't you displaying the actual error; it may appear to make no sense to some, but those with a background in the IT industry will realize the
stupidity of this error.

Hi there

@Murray Sobol

Not an answer to the OP - however an alternative suggestion : for Solitaire, Spider Solitaire Hearts (Love that game --other might know it as "Black Lady") etc why not install from Winaero site the Windows 7 games for W10/W11. Works perfectly, free , no ads, no hassle.

Cheers

Got exactly the same problem - everything works except the daily challenge, where I get the "download error". There's nothing wrong with my internet connection!!! Is this a problem affecting lots of people?

Hi FreeBooter:
I WOULD have reported the error to Microsoft support website but when I tried, there isn't a section for Games or Solitaire.
Glad to see other are reporting the same problem.

I troubleshot this error and was able to resolve with following steps:

1> Uninstall Solitaire App
2> Delete All Associated Folders From C:\Program Files\WindowsApps associated with Microsoft Solitaire (I had 3 folders)
3> reinstall Solitaire App.

Worked fine for me.

That's overkill, and won't you lose all of your context?

Just Reset the app. Go into Settings for the app (right-click on the app, choose Settings from the More menu), click on the Reset button, and the app cache will be wiped and reloaded from the host.

I have to do this several times a week because of that buggy as hell ad server allowing ads to take over.

Just stop fiddling!
The Error was with the MS servers - I got a better message stating that through another source in my Email.
9 hours ago, all returned to normal without my help.

Just imagine... solitaire needing an internet connection. :)

If MS was at all concerned with people's privacy and security, the solitaire collection (including challenges), would be downloadable.
It kind of worries me that MS is forcing/encouraging everyone to be welded to their servers... for everything.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
It is optional- Plenty of free offers available.
It is, I believe, "downloadable" from the store. Not clear how that would work, as it is built in anyway?

Problem solved. As some suspected, problem with Microsoft's servers.
Too bad they are not proactive in monitoring their servers.

That happens to my wife occasionally. I think that the error is on their end and the message is just a generic message.

In my case, I got the error for most of Saturday. I reset the app and it was fine after that. If it was just a server error, it was a heck of a timing coincidence.

There’s been many complaints on the Microsoft community from users with the same problem.
Your problem may or may not have been due to the server problems.
