Hello to all the forum, I have a problem with Windows 11 20H2 just installed and is that notifications, such as incoming mail, almost not heard. (This did not happen to me in Windows 10.) I installed the sound drivers for my motherboard, Realtek and Windows 11 installed the Realtek app but I have the pc at full volume and notifications are not heard. Well that's my problem. I hope you can help me to solve it so that the notifications are heard as Windows 10 did. Thank you very much in advance to all and thanks for accepting me in this forum. Best regards.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, MS redesigned some of the system sounds but you can select whatever sound you want for different events. Use the following steps to change your mail sound. It would be the sound marked "New mail notification". Have your volume set at a normal level when doing this.

  • Right click on sound icon in system tray and select ‘sound settings’
  • Scroll down to ‘more sound settings’
  • Click on ‘sounds’ tab in the resulting window
  • Under Program events find ‘new mail notification’ and select it
  • At the bottom is a box marked sounds. Click the down arrow. You will see a ton of sound .wav files listed. To see what each one sounds like, select the .wav file and click test.
  • When you find one you like for your mail notification, select it then apply, OK.

Will that normalize the low volume?

Probably not, as each system is different, especially when using laptop speakers. But I have found that some of those off the wall .wav sounds that are available are louder and more distinct than others.

I have the pc at full volume, now with the alarm sound is heard a little better. But it can't compare to the sound I had in Windows 10.

I wasn't sure if that would also reset the volume.

You're correct, because the new 11 sounds were redesigned to be and I quote "softer and more fluid to match its visual appeal." So the notifications now sound calmer on the new Windows. Though I have not tried it myself, it is supposedly possible to use your own .wav file as a system sound. Maybe one of you guys who has a Windows 11 VM could see if it works and how much difference it makes when a system sound sounds.

The browse option is still there in Win 11. I don't have a sound file to use so I couldn't test. I don't see why it wouldn't work though.

@Silence I've been thinking about this. Are you using external speakers or speakers built in to the monitor? With sound set at normal level, is your sound volume loud for regular sounds such as youtube video,music etc?

I'm using a HyperX Cloud Stinger headset with Windows 11 volume at maximum and the Realtek app at maximum. In Windows 10 I could hear incoming mail notifications such as executables asking for permission to be raised, with Windows 11 I can't hear these sounds. I don't know what MS has modified to make this happen. I am thinking of returning to Windows 10 that for my point of view is more stable. Besides the bug problem I have with SAC. Thank you very much. I did a clean install of Windows 11 20H2 and have SAC disabled.
