Several times I delay an update for a bit later on and have done so many times. There is a Windows 11, version 25H2 is available update and I been ignoring it for a while. I have done the other updates though and any Dell firmware updates.

Is it fine to download and install this update? I have ignored it for a long time. I think once or twice it even completed the update by itself which would require a restart of it for it to continue? Does this update ever allow this or you have to click on download and install for it to be downloaded?

The thing is eventually if I have to do this update, should I just do this now? I recalled a while back I did the same with the version 24H2 a while back and I think after a while, I had to do the update? Do you recommend just doing this update now as oppose to just ignoring it? If you ignore it, how long before you can't and it has to update it.

Well, the underlying code for 25H2 is already in 24H2, and all you are doing is enabling the changes if you upgrade.

So the changes to 24H2 are primarily addition changes rather than changes to the 24H2 parts.

In fact, you can even reverse the change by removing the update, so risk of upgrading is minimal.

The other point is you can wait ages to upgrade but you still have no idea that all will be fine.

Of course, making an image backup first is ALWAYS a good plan, just in case something goes wonky.

Okay so I did the update to 25H2.

I notice now there is another update called

Preview Update (KB5067036) (26200.7019) is available.

I have to download and install before it gets downloaded. Do I need to download this as well? This showed up after updating to 25H2 when I went to updates and now it shows this update.

Thanks.

It's up to you as it's an optional Windows preview update. It's a non-security update that includes bug fixes and other improvements ahead of its inclusion in the next mandatory monthly cumulative update.

The thing is would I need to do the update in the future though? Or would this update eventually disappear if I don't do it for a while?

It should be integrated into the next mandatory update so no.

If your asking me I have it on two PC's with no issues. I prefer fixes sooner then later myself although it doesn't always work out that way Lol.
