Solved Windows Disk Cleanup?

Is there another bug that is preventing 380mb of windows update cleanup from being deleted in the disk cleanup? I know there was one not that long ago.

Oddly enough, after recently updating my PC with the latest 24H2 Build, I'm missing the Windows Update Cleanup option in Disc Cleanup. Hmmmm..... Something else now to look into. Edit: The option to check/ uncheck it is missing (unusual), however while running Disc Cleanup, I've noticed it is cleaning it. Not sure what's going on.

Are you aware that MS have deprecated Disk Cleanup and are not fixing bugs in it any more?
They want you to use Settings>System>Storage instead for cleaning up purposes but even this has bugs. e.g. Temporary internet files remain after they have supposedly been deleted? In my case 1.09 GB is showing for deletion but I believe the files don't actually exist. There are other threads on this forum regarding this.

Are you running Disk Cleanup with elevated privileges? i.e. As Administrator?

It doesn't matter how you start a clean up of the Windows updates, Disk Clean-up or Storage Sense, you can see in Task Manager they all end up running the same process. Those two are just GUIs, different means to reach the same ends.

You can also start it from the command line with: dism /online /cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

One of my non-computer geek friends is thoroughly confused about where is files are, because OneDrive is active on his system. After I get back from a trip, I'm going to try to help me configure his system better.

There's no confusion on my system, OneDrive has been banished! :lmao: I put it in the same category of GoogleDrive, etc. They just want you to get used to using it, then when you go over the limited free storage, they have a permanent revenue stream.

This is also why I have the lifetime subscription to Malwarebytes, Acronis True Image, etc. It's also why I use an older version of Microsoft Office, I don't have to keep paying for it year after year. When Microsoft decides that new versions of Windows will become a subscription service, that's when I'll move over to Linux and leave it behind! :rolleyes:
