Another option is eM Client. Works fine in 11 and has a calendar. It's free but limited to two email addresses, the paid version has unlimited email addresses and other options.

Once MS stopped supporting Outlook Express I tried Outlook etc and even after I removed all the features I didn't want it was still very poor compared to what I was used to. In Seven Forums OE Classic was mentioned so I tried that. Even then it was already an excellent replacement for OE. I later paid the small one-off fee to upgrade to OEC PRO and with the various upgrades it beats the original as well. The programming is done by volunteers (like some open source projects) and questions and bugs (few) dealt with politely in less than a day. Recent changes make it able to be set as the default email client so interfaces fully. It is already checked for Win 11 compatibility.
It is now the only email client I use, and if I need a calendar, then the standard Win 10 version is good enough. (But I admit I still prefer a printed one on the shelf in the living room!)

Sure looks like a good alterative and you seem happy with it @Snugglebugs In the end I changed from live mail to Outlook 2019 and that suits me although not much use if you want a simple program. Well recommended @Edwin

I am currently using WLM 2012 and have tons of contacts, archived mail (individual folders based on conversations), as well as a feature with which mail from certain sources is automatically sent to the junk folder. It no longer works in 11 so I have to change to something else.

I've read all the posts about other email software, but my main focus is on finding something with which I can import contacts and the archived catalogued emails. In WLM I was also able to automatically move emails to designated folders. The built in Win11 Mail client has none of that.

I see there are ways to make WLM work in 11 by editting the Registry but I fear that as updates come in, my fixes will be reversed.

Why not consider moving to Thunderbird its regularly updated and is not old and vulnerable as such an old software is.
Maybe because I want a mail client that shows the unread mail for multiple accounts in one window so I can sort through duplicate emails quickly and easily. I hardly ever go beyond the preview pane to read emails. Windows Live Mail 2011 did this for me until I was stuck using Win10 and had to install Windows Live Mail 2012.

Now Microsoft is about to cut off support for Win10 to push everyone to the awful Win11 and I'm fighting the battle to get WLM to work in Win11

That seems to be the pattern for Microsoft since 2012 -- they had some really useful features in the Live Essentials in 2011 & 2012 but once they brought out Windows 10 and then Windows 11 they keep stripping out features instead of adding or even keeping what they had.

I still use Windows Live Mail 2012 to this day on 10 and 11 with no issues.
I simply install .Net Framework 3.5 and then run the Live Mail Installer.
No registry hacks, or other voodoo needed to get it working. It just does.

peace
