Solved Windows Version 1909 Has reached the end of life.

Dell Inspiron 15 - 3565 laptop

AMD A6-9200 Radeon R4 Processor

Four gigabytes of Ram.

I am told:

Windows Version 1909 Has reached the end of life.

Further, I am told in red font:

Your device is missing important security and quality fixes.

When I try to update the system, I will occasionally get an update to Microsoft defender but nothing more.

Troubleshooting allowed me to refresh the system. It let me get to Windows 10 22H2. But when I continue updating from there, it will not. I continue to get the red font line and only the occasional update to Microsoft defender.

I know this system isn’t very good and it especially needs more ram, which The owner will get once we get the thing in working order. Ha!

Question #1: Will this system take Windows 11?

Question #2: Should I go ahead and do a clean install and forget about updating?

When I tried to run the app to find out if the computer is eligible, I couldn't get it to install. I don't know if this goes to that particular version, 1909, being out of date or what.

yes, I concede that I am a little head damaged.

You need to try get the PC updated to 22H2.
I909 is long gone.

Unless I'm mistaken, the PC has been updated to 22H2, but so far something inside there hasn't recognized that.

Yes, when a version goes out of support, you might still get some security updates

#1 I do not find that cpu on the list of windows 11 compatible CPU, so to install Windows 11 you will have to use one of the install procedures that bypasses the requirements. Bypass Windows 11 System Requirements on Unsupported PC
I would use Rufus method.
@Bree You're experienced in that so maybe you can tell Wy the best way. I looked at the CPU specs and it says it does support SSE 4.2.
@Wynona you can run cpu-z to verify that is correct.)

#2 IMO, I would. With all the issues going on with 24h2, I have doubts it would install, especially as an upgrade, but I've never installed on an incompatible machine so what do I know. Bree can tell you that too.

AMD A6-9200 R4 does have SSE4.2 full specs of the CPU here

but you would need a Rufus 4.6 configured bootable USB to install/upgrade the system.

Yes, its A6-9200 has SSE4.2, so can run Windows 11 24H2.

For a clean install on unsupported device I have a little batch file that I run after booting from the 24H2 install usb, but before continuing with Setup. I use Shift+F10 to get a command prompt so that I can run it.

I have been off the computer so long that I've forgotten almost everything I knew. I have clean installed so many times that I should be able to do it in my sleep. Not anymore. Back when we were getting updates all over the place, I would do a clean install with every update. I got over that though. he he he

I knew the answer but I wanted confirmation. I'm just no longer sure of myself.

Rufus actually uses those same registry settings. I prefer to have a standard install usb and only make the changes when installing on an unsupported device. But Rufus will do the job too.

Upon further investigation I find that the processor fan has problems, the power button doesn't always work, and it refuses to update.

So the computer has been returned to its owner and will go to the computer hospital.

That laptop will only run 8gb ram, has an incompatible cpu, a broken power button, and bad cpu fan. Sounds to me like it's ready for the computer morgue rather than the computer hospital unless one already has old parts on hand to fix it. Plus, Labor ain't gonna be cheap at a repair shop.

I just saw on a post from the beta/Dev forum that this one guy used a dead chicken that he swong over his head. The PC didn't work but the chicken woke up from the dead. Zombie chicken

Bypass compatibility check to install Windows 11. Replace the fan and, if it is a tower, connect the reset cable at the power pins on the motherboard so you have no reset but you can switch on/off the computer with the reset button. I have done this many times to save old computers with a broken power button. Alternatively you may configure BIOS to switch on by pressing a key on the keyboard or clicking the mouse.
