Hi all. I recently have had Wordpad fail to open when clicked...then open a minute or two later. No other apps acting weird.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and have done nothing so far.

Build 19045.3570 10 Pro with 16gb ram running great otherwise.

Actually, WordPad is going away. It still exists in Windows Tools but where I had it pinned on the Start menu has disappeared.

Before Windows 95 [1995] it was called Write in Win3.1x and there is still a write.exe file in Windows that only opens WordPad. A decent free alternative would be LibreOffice.

Thanks. It started working correctly. Not sure what happened. Funny you mentioned Libre. Have used it for years.

I have, too, mainly because I deal with older clients who had computers that the OEMs had included Microsoft Works [9 was the last] and their newer ones didn't, couldn't work with the recipes and other documents they created in Works but LibreOffice can work with many formats. Even though OpenOffice has the same roots it doesn't include as many formats. Both programs came from StarOffice, looking at the .exe file for LibreOffice Writer shows swriter.exe. Just for kicks, if anyone remembers ClarisWorks, I have a copy of version 5 and it runs without having to be installed.
