Solved 21H2 (22000.376) Unable to install Audacity

I'm trying to install Audacity for the first time. I downloaded from the Audacity site (wasn't sure I was finding the right thing when I looked in the Windows App Store). When I try to install I get the attached popup. I click on "Install anyway" and nothing happens. Nor does anything happen if I click on "Change my app recommendation settings". The other attachment shows the relevant Settings.

Thanks for any and all help, suggestions, sympathy, etc. Bob

Settings>Apps>Apps & features>Choose where to get apps make sure it is anywhere

Or try Audacity website and try to install as an administrator. Also check your user account settings.

I have Audacity installed on my Windows 11 i have downloaded from Audacity website also change Apps --> Advanced app settings to Anywhere.

Thanks to The-Hive and FreeBooter, but it is now looking like an Audacity problem since I was able to install Adobe Reader DC, downloaded from the Adobe site, without any problem. But that makes me curious FreeBooter ... I am trying to install audacity-win-3.1.3-64bit.exe. What level do you have installed FreeBooter? Thanks, Bob

Hey Bob.. I just installed Audacity 3.1.3 on my rig.,. I'm using the latest Dev version. I can't recall ever having an issue installing it.

I just update to the latest version of Audacity without problem.

Me too. Downloaded to my release VM, installed, played a flac, listened to music.

Please note my use of "looking like"! I am way to old to be certain about much of anything! But from the outset I doubted that there would be an undiscovered/unfixed problem in the Windows11 installation process. The installation process is a heavily exercised part of any OS, isn't it? Possible to be sure. But IMHO not real likely. But then when I was able to install without any problem Adobe Reader DC which, as with Audacity, was downloaded from the provider's website rather then the Win App Store, I considered that evidence that the problem is most likely in the Audacity package. It's a lame analogy (but the only one occurring to me at the moment): if you can pick up some radio station on your radio you have no idea if it's a problem with your radio or the station. But then if you borrow a friends radio and set it next to yours and it can pick up the station you can be pretty sure that your radio is at fault.

Of course the fact that so many people have successfully installed Audacity on Win11 indicates that the problem is not Windows 11 but Windows 11 on my laptop installing Audacity. That doesn't seem likely I admit but that's where I am at.

Thank you rezpower. VideoHelp looks like a useful site. But I am really cautious about where I download apps from. I may eventually try the VideoHelp site but it will be a last resort. But Thanks. Bob

Got Audacity on my Win10 box, just installed 3.1.3 64bit on Win11 22000.376 on this PC and no problem. Downloaded direct from the Audacity Website.

I plead confusion! I was confused first by the experience with Adobe Reader DC which was downloaded from the Adobe site and which installed without a problem. In fact that still confuses me. But I was also confused by the fact that the first three choices in Advanced app settings are all Anywhere choices. Looking at those first three choices the descriptions did not indicate to me that the first choice was less restrictive than the other two. I choose the 2nd or 3rd, I forget which, figuring that getting a warning was a good idea in case I forgot to change it back to App Store Only. I appreciate the suggestions made by The-Hive and FreeBooter and apologize for my confusion.
