Solved 24H2 is awful

I upgraded to 24H2 and have not noticed any difference and I am on an unsupported machine. Most people that are having problems have installed third party tweaking and manipulative software and want to blame Microsoft for their problems. I am not saying Windows is perfect but it will be better if you just except the new stuff and learn to live with it. 24H2 will get better with time just like the previous versions have.

The Subject line is misleading It should say 24H2 is Awful For Me. This is not the experience for everyone. I have had no issues so far since I managed to get my Killer E2500 network ethernet controller working , this was the only issue after upgrading. There is always the possibility of PEKBAC (not directed at OP specifically) I feel my internet connection to my game servers is better with a lower ping after upgrading to 24H2.. The fact that MS gives an easy rollback method, even novices like me can carry out without help, means you can wait it out for any known bugs to be fixed. The people on this forum are very helpful if you do find an issue and work with you too.

My experience with 24H2 is good, as several others have already stated. My computer specs are below in "My Computer". I always install all Microsoft updates and have for decades. I don't do any OS mods or hacks.

It was also pretty hectic in here when 23H2 entered the scene.
Many eager people trying to beat the release date, so it was obvious that when it was released, there would be plenty of volunteers to beta test it, plenty of experiences to read about before I chose to take the upgrade rout.
That’s one of the benefits of the forum I suppose, being able to see what happened when people before you made the change.

I downloaded 24H2 ISO and saved it when it was released.
I upgraded and allowed the first cumulative update which brought me to .1742
Then I disabled the updates with WAU Manager because what I was reading was a mess.
Everything from SFC/DISM errors to people being concerned about Storage Sense/Disk Cleanup issues.

Not always an advantage to being first. Good to come 2nd though.

Same here, I just leave the OS alone unless I absolutely have to change settings etc. With 24H2 I've got a couple of gremlins, nothing major. I don't think it is anything close to 'awful' and have no plans to rage quit and stop using 24H2.

I, on the other hand beat Win 11 senseless. But even doing that, 24H2 seems OK.

I do use 3rd party backup software religiously though.


That reminded me. Since 24H2, I needed to redo my REVO pic, to show all the added image and video extensions....

Re 'awful' versions of Windows. Is there anyone else who is old enough to remember Window Millenium Edition (aka ME) the last of the DOS versions of Windows. Now that was truly dreadful. :sick:

It was mercifully replaced by XP.

I owned every consumer version of Windows since Win95 and I did use Millenium for a while without issue, as far as I can remember, it wasn't the end of the world :LOL:

And Windows 11 24H2 runs better on my unsupported pc than some supported ones. :unsure:

Of course playing devils advocate, there is no telling right now if the problems you experienced on your particular machine would be a problem for somebody else on a different machine. Could be something unique to your actual setup.

I'm not doubting that you are seeing issues on your build, but this doesn't mean it's a widespread issue that everybody is facing. If on the other hand you could install clean on another machine and duplicate the exact behavior, we would know that it's a potential bug for anybody on 24H2.

i haven't put 24H2 on anything as an upgrade. I have 1 side computer I loaded 24H2 onto, just to see if I could without meeting system specs and it worked.

Not that old chestnut again , people ignoring details to suit this (imo) silly argument.

Win95 was terrible in any shape.

W7 was really Vista rebadge rather than Vista.1. It is so old now, it is laughable when people look at it with rose coloured glasses.

Windows 8.1 was fine provided you added a start menu - technically far superior than W7. Much of the core of W7 was rewitten for W8 which was robust enough to form the basis of W10.

Win11 definitely superior to Win10!

There are always people who hate change. Funny how people came to love W10 after the massive opposition to "forced updates" but guess what - hardly any pcs get infected like the days of crappy Windows 7 (I spit on its grave).

The truth is each version of Windows has been technically superior and have greater abilities than the previous version.

I do note one improvement in 24H2 for the first time ever the USB eject seems to work for every attached USB external drive.

For me the most interesting changes in 24H2 are to drivers, of which there are numerous. The 'under the hood' changes never do get much publicity when a new version of Windows is released. In particular the WDDM display drivers are getting an update.

An upgrade to 24H2 doesn't encrypt the disks unless you did a clean install using 24H2 media?
I went from 23H2 to 24H2 with no encryption, once using Windows Update and then doing a 24H2 > 24H2 repair install using an offical MS ISO (not Rufus-created). Nothing got encrypted.

I went from 23H2 to 24H2 with no encryption, once using Windows Update and then doing a 24H2 > 24H2 repair install using an offical MS ISO (not Rufus-created). Nothing got encrypted.

I installed 24H2 as a clean install to a machine that was previously running Linux, and it didn't enable BitLocker at all on my drives.
