Advice on memory.

I'll be adding some memory to my machine either this week or next. Upping it from 16GB to 32GB. Any suggestions as to which I should get? I'm seeing quite a range pricewise and wondered if anyone has any favorites and why. Machine mainly used for surfing and some gaming.

This is what I have installed now. I'm looking at some G.Skill Ripjaws at the moment..... would that be a good choice?

You can't go wrong with Crucial, Kingston, Samsung. Just make sure it matches your installed ram.

Some OEMs use Hynix, I've found it to be good memory, even salvage it from otherwise junk machines for reuse. Have not had issues with Crucial in over 20 years. Micron has also been good.

g.skill ripjaws is an excellent choice, but it is best to match the brand & model you have, or replace it all with a single kit.

I've been using G.Skill memory for many, many years, pretty much exclusively. It's been absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend.

Crucial is actually a Micron brand and they are both pretty silent about who manufactures what, but either label is almost certainly the same so yes, Micron is also on top

And yes, G.Skill is highly rated and made in Taiwan, but my first choice has always been Crucial.

I have upgraded my G513RC, a smaller sibling of your G713RC, with two Crucial 16GB DDR5-4800 MHz and they work pretty well. Your laptop also supports DDR5 4800 MHz so you'll need this type of memory.

As for the brands Micron is used by OEMs while for commercial users it solds its products under the brand of Crucial so they're same. Hynix, Samsung are also good choices.

Presumably this will be swapping out a pair of 8GB DIMMs for a pair of 16GB. That would avoid any concerns about mixing RAM.

I wonder what model the Asus laptop is? That would clinch the issue.

Yes, swapping out 2 8's for two 16's. It's an Asus Strix G713RC

Thanks. I don't spot a QVL (qualified vendors list) for RAM for that laptop.

Crucial lists upgrades for it. They guarantee compatibility. If you're interested in low latency RAM, it may be possible to do better with another brand.

I've also used RAM from Corsair and Gskill. My current primary system uses Kingston memory.

Besides Crucial/Micron being the best quality ram you can buy, they also have a little test program that you can download from their site, that examines your system, and then they can recommend the Best Ram for your system. And, if you like, you can buy the ram right from their site.
I've bought tons of ram from them over the years and never had a failure. All their ram comes with a lifetime warranty!!!

Might be a glitch. But normally, it's right up where Jump to new and Unwatch are, above the 1st post in the thread. Says, Mark as solved." Only appears for the Thread Starter, so nobody else can mark it as solved. Click my thumbnail to see the details.
