Solved BIOS Update > Beta Version?

I have a newer model of a motherboard, and as such like any good PC owner I regularly check the BIOS version usually once a month.
Yesterday, 29 Aug I did my monthly check and found this very disturbing picture.
I have been using PC for 30 years and learned early on that the BIOS is a very real component in the running of OS, with that being said, for the very first time in updating literally hundreds of BIOS I found this for my motherboard.

My current version is the 3621 and the new update is a BETA VERSION on a BIOS, that according to the manufacturer is irreversible on my motherboard.

If I wait for the next release and install it, provided it too is not BETA VERSION, will skipping this one affect the newer version?

The word BETA and I do not get along well, never have, and from personal experience, never will, but if forced will allow a properly trained tech to do so copy of existing BIOS is made to fall back on if this kills my PC. Which BETA seems to do a lot with me.

BIOS beta versions are as old as time. Having said that, I have never once used one. The motherboard is too important for that.

Skipping a Beta BIOS update will have no effect on the next released BIOS version.

I would definitely not install a Beta BIOS/UEFI. I never have done.

No, it is more of a wholesale replacement BIOS/UEFI than an update. Indeed the Beta may be deleted from their list eventually.

Basically every BIOS update is Beta, Stable version does not guarantee anything, updating breaks warranty either way.

Irreversible by standard means, I believe you can use BIOS flashback to restore the previous version in case of an issue.
This update fixes fTPM vulnerability, thus the reason it is suggested not to reverse it and why it was released promptly.

They also addressed that in the last release update which brings me to wonder if they may have screwed it up or left something un-addressed.
Or had reports of issues with the release BIOS update.

I think they all say that lol. Possible for liability reasons? It depends on the board.
Having said that, I’d still never load a Beta BIOS.

Not to worry, we possibly wont see this member for another 5 months, like their previous thread.

Beta bios have always been around.
I load them without issue and about 99% of the time the beta becomes the final with no changes to it unless some issues arise which hardly ever happens.
If the beta has security fixes it may be best to update to it.

BIOS updates are never really detailed, they merely say:
  • Security Fixes: Continuation of fTPM vulnerability patches introduced in earlier 1.2.0.3 updates.

I appreciate all the help and suggestions, and yes even the quip about 5 months.
Life does go on and in those 5 months there have been some very drastic changes to my health, so thanks for the jab.

I have decided to wait until the next version or the BETA is removed then do a double install.

Do BETA, restart, shut down, install newer version, restart and go on with life.

That way using the EZ Flash on my motherboard, if the BETA fails I can still install the newer at the same time to correct failure.

If you wait you can skip the beta version. There is nothing cumulative to worry about, each BIOS version stands on its own. The next version will be non beta and will include the beta changes ( unless the beta uncovered issues) and any other corrections.

Asus beta are usually pretty good. I always install them. But my board has BIOS fkash-back and the ability to roll back the BIOS, yours may not.

I have the same motherboard. I went ahead and updated to the 3631 (Beta) a few days ago. I haven't had any problems with it.

My current version is the 3621 and the new update is a BETA VERSION on a BIOS, that according to the manufacturer is irreversible on my motherboard.

If I wait for the next release and install it, provided it too is not BETA VERSION, will skipping this one affect the newer version?

The word BETA and I do not get along well, never have, and from personal experience, never will, but if forced will allow a properly trained tech to do so copy of existing BIOS is made to fall back on if this kills my PC. Which BETA seems to do a lot with me.

It downloaded as a zip file. You just click on Bios renamer after extracting, and it automatically renames your file. then copy file to your USB drive. I just copied and pasted to the USB drive which will show in my PC.
