Glad you got a chance to recharge, Tecknot!
To answer your first question: the easiest way to tell if the checkpoint merge is completely finished is to look at Hyper-V Manager. If the Checkpoints section in the middle panel is completely empty and just says "No checkpoints exist for this virtual machine," you are 100% in the clear, and the merge is done. You can also verify by looking at the folder in File Explorer—the temporary. avhdx files will completely vanish, leaving only your single main .vhdx file.
As for moving it to your new drive, OAT is exactly right—the virtual disk is completely movable! However, don't just manually cut and paste the file in File Explorer, or Hyper-V will lose track of the path and throw a "file not found" error when you try to start it.
Since the VM is currently turned off, the absolute cleanest way to move it to your new directory without breaking anything is to use Hyper-V's built-in wizard:

- Right-click your VM in Hyper-V Manager and select Move.
- Choose Move the virtual machine's storage and click Next.
- Select Move only the virtual hard disks (or move all the VM's data to one location if you want to keep the configuration files together on the new drive).
- Browse to your newly cleared directory as the destination and let Hyper-V handle the transfer safely in the background.
