Solved Camera problem

I plugged the SD card into a card reader and transferred the files.
New card in camera.

I wonder now if it is a Camera firmware corruption or something similar

The camera should have a battery charger included; however, a dead battery isn't going to produce the error code the OP got. A dead battery simply won't allow the camera to be seen. I have a couple of Nikon digital bodies (D800 & D850).

Over the years I've got set in my ways after a few "accidents" these days I never charge batteries in the camera body, I always download the images from the Card in a built in or USB card reader. I do however format the cards in the camera so as to prevent any misalignment issues between the camera and the card, ( even though this is highly unlikely these days.

It is a good few years old and taken literally a hundred thousand images. and it's still taking them fine, just won't transfer them Jeff

My wife said the battery went flat in the middle of transferring the pictures to the pc, I had a look and it transferred about 23 of the 48 before the battery gave up. Everything people have suggested so far I have tried, even the firmware.
At present the camera is working fine at taking pictures, so instead of plugging it in to the pc, we take the card out and put it in the card reader which brings up the transfer program (Nikon NX2) which transfers and renames all the images to the format we use so all is not too bad at least it's useable

I thinks it was because the battery died in the middle of a transfer

My bodies (and the OP's) won't charge the battery why you get an A/C battery charger ;)

I actually download off camera. Quick and easy. And the bodies are USB 3. But I recognized each has their way of doing things :)

I agree, the reason I do that and use the Nikon program is because for years I had a different camera which set the file name to a set format date and number, and with the D3200 and NX2 I can keep that format for all photos ( I hope that made sense)

I gave NX2 and NX Studio a try but I'm an Adobe user, so I process with Lightroom and finalize in Photoshop.

Ihave external chargers for my main camera batteries thatfast charge up to 4 batteries at once. I also have external USB chargers which I can use in the car while traveling between locations, or even from a solar charger on site..

One thing with an older model it maybe worth resetting to factory level and then installing all the updates in order, to ensure the firmware and software is free of glitches

I have done all the resetting etc. Mine has a couple of battery packs, which you take out, pup a new one in and charge the flat one

did you remove that unknown device in Device manager....
hate PnP allways leaves drivers behind..... check in the hidden section as well
(it creates a new record if you plug it into a different port)
