Solved Can't Create Dual Boot


Ok. I wrote that the problem is not installing on any partition, only the installation must go separately and must make an EFI system partition because later there is a problem in booting windows because it will send you to the bios and then when you pass the bios you will be able to boot other windows even if you have EasyBCD installed . I have enough experience with that until I figured it out.

The method @obelix used was for installing on 3 separate OS's on 3 separate disks completely independent of each other, it's not the same installing to a single disk. Post a screenshot of you diskmgmt

You can change drive letters to whatever you like from disk management.

Just right click on drive and select option.

All sorted (I hope) I uninstalled easybcd, ran Macrium Rescue Disk and fixed the boot error so now it boots to a Blue "Metro" screen and renamed the operating systems from the tutorial. I did expand the size of the drive with Partition Wizard and found that my drives have all been re named, C is still C, F is now D, D is now E and E is now F. That is not a problem, I it's better

I also like that Windows 11 has progressed to the point that dual booting is now much faster than in Windows 10!

I have one SSD drive and one Data drive on this system. I have partitioned the SSD drive to hold Windows 10 and Windows 11; C:\ and F:\. When I'm in Windows 10, I'm "using" the C:\ drive. When I'm in Windows 11, it tells me I'm using C:\ drive, although it's really F:\. I believe this is done by Microsoft because Windows can only run on the C:\ drive. Of course, I'm guessing here . . .

Drive letters are only allocated at start up of Windows - during boot process, the system uses volume identifiers which are unique.

You are correct that the booted version of full Windows is historically always C (boot drive can have any letter in WinPE mode but normally assigned X).

So when you boot from Windows 11, it is C that is always assigned to the drive with booted OS. Other drives can be assigned different letters depending on situtation.

So same physical drive can be assigned a different letter in each operating system.
All that happens is each OS dynamically assigns next available drive letter.

However each version of Windows remembers the drive letters it assigns. So you jiggle drive letters around until the same drive letter is used on each partition (when booted from each OS). The trick is to use the same drive letter for Windows i.e. you boot into W10 and assign W11 letter D (say), and vice versa when you boot into W11.

Windows can get a letter other than C if you install it on another partition or drive when you are in windows.
But, as Navy states, who does this anymore.
Rod, if I have a CD/DVD drive installed, I always change its letter to Z.

A few more problems now that the dual boot is working fine and the Insider dev build .100 installed.
1, I have one of Brinks tweaks to get the ribbon back and it worked fine until the update, now it goes over the first 4 lines
2, Another Tweak to play a sound at Logon, all still there but the logon sound not working, other sounds play fine
3, ExplorerPatcher no longer works as I cannot restart explorer with it installed.

Any Suggestions?
