I've not encountered issues naming drives going clear back into MS-DOS 5 with Win3.1 on it. It can be done in Properties of the drive or in Command Prompt.

Something odd is going on, I've never seen this issue over many different Windows versions.

"Scott" is my admin account (and the only account on the system right now).

I don't see that we have a shot of the SYSTEM, how about the shot of the security tab. It would be good to see what Administrators and SYSTEM permissions are. In a system that hasn't been tinkered with, Administrators and SYSTEM should have the full house except for Special Permissions.

He's showing the permissions on P:\. Only the Scott account has access, which is why things are wonky.

OK, all the other accounts are missing? I just looked, and you're right, I wonder how that happened? I've done no tinkering with the permissions on these drives, so something is rotten in Denmark on his system.

Right, or someone went a little overboard locking down permissions.

Well, locking down SYSTEM and Administrators is probably a pretty bad idea. :lmao:

If you only changed permissions for the root-level folder:
Code:
icacls P:\ /reset

If you changed permissions for all subfolders and their files:
Code:
icacls P:\ /reset /t /c /l

So, if I add system back to the permissions, that should fix it?
Wont that mean other users on the PC can access the drive those? (its not a big deal if they can. Just trying to mininise data loss).

You can set changed permissions on created folders/subfolders in the drive, but you (user) shouldn't exclusively own a drive device.

The SYSTEM account isn’t an interactive user on Windows, or at least it never should be. Start with adding just SYSTEM back, and see what that gets you.
