For many years that used to work. You really don't want to update to the last version 6 build, 6.39.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

I'm still using v5.47.6701 and that was through using a hosts file.

I use CCleaner 5.78 I installed it offline, and I blocked it and it's updaters in MY firewall. And... since it was purchased by Avast, I also "added" these lines to my HOSTS file (which "blocks" them)... C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\HOSTS...

I can also use Windows Firewall Control and block it with a new rule as soon as the pop up appears as it tries to update itself.

I suggest you just unhook the internet while you install CCleaner.
You can't create a firewall rule faster than CCleaner can call home.

I just found out installing CCleaner also creates a new task in the Task Scheduler library that pings the internet for updates. I deleted that task as well.

You might want to check out yours to make sure you don't have it in there.

options>updates uncheck 2 options

I'll do you one better and let you choose what version you want. I got mine here. I had a typo. Instead of 6.1.3 it's 6.1.4 that I use. Even though it's several years old, it still works great so I have never tried one of the others.
By the way these portable versions retain your settings as well as any cookies you choose to keep. Be sure and turn "smart cleaning" off in options.

There is no portable version of CCleaner 7. That link says '7' but the .zip it downloads is actually for 6.39.

CCleaner portable 6.39 was the last version 6 - and it has a sting in its tail as noted in post #21

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Yeah, mine was active.

Anytime I install something like this, I make it a habit of checking out both Task Scheduler and services.msc to make sure nothing funny is running in the background that I don't want running. I started doing that after I installed Brave as a secondary browser and switched to updating it manually instead of having it's tasks and services running in auto mode in the background all the time. I like having some control over it.
