Cloud Storage - Is it worth it

I have 0.8Mbs upload and I find cloud storage rather a pain with that. My "massive" 3.5 Mbs down is better but all in all it's not worth it except for v. small files.
Sorry to hear you're speed limited, but yes, internet speed is a factor when considering cloud storage.

That said, obviously you have to consider your internet connection when thinking of cloud storage. It's like someone saying I'm thinking of getting sportscar, and you coming in and saying "a car payment isn't worth it for me because I have no license". Uhh... yeah :cautious:
Yeah it would very different if I had a decent connection. There's no argument about the usefulness of cloud storage.

Mostly 3G and we're on the edge of a dead zone so there's often no signal in the house (stone walls) there's certainly no 5G here it's proper rural living. I can get prime movies with (usually) no buffering problems and YouTube works fine. Obviously not talking 4K here often not HD - that's for really good days!!! :-D
I'm sure it will happen soon enough. I'm quite impressed with French technology !! although they seem to have hosed up their latest generation of Nuclear power stations (EDF etc).

As for stone buildings mine is too -- was a pile of rocks with some land with sea view only 2 km from sea and cost me at the time (around 40 years ago merely equiv of 6500 EUR (although the EURO hadn't come into force then - paid in FF). . Converted into a nice little "Hide away" over the years - I really admire the ingenuity of some French workmen -- when the right tools aren't available they jury rig stuff like nobody's business !! makes me even as a competant Engineer quite jealous -- great overlooking the sea on a balcony drinking great French Wine !!!. Was offered almost half a million EUR for the Gaf -- but no amount of money could replicate the view and beautiful surroundings in the most fantastic weather on earth.

Anyway as I am coming to the end of my career I'll probably retire full time to Hendaye (Iceland is in EEA so no B----t problems with retirement and long time residence > 90 days in 180 which I believe is the rule in France for non EU / EEA nationals now) certainly over the Winter months -- lovely place, great food , friendly people and San Sebastian / Donestia is not far away and that's great too. Maybe I'll even get to see the Pamplona Bull Run next year - bet there's a few in this Forum who probably wish I'd take part in it too and be sorted out by a huge black bull. !!!

Anyway cheers and I think much cheaper Satellite Internet isn't too far away which should be a boon for rural customers although even at the speed of light you'll find a small delay with transmission compared to earth bound systems.

Reading your post reminds me of the days of using Hayes1200 / 2400 baud modems and accoustic couplers with slow text based connections. !!!

Hopefully we aren't going back to those days if Energy runs out. !!

Cheers

I use OneDrive but have learned over time how it does and doesn't work. It has always been a bit buggy and non-intuitive and still is. It can take time to start moving files/folders up and down which is disconcerting. It often leaves my folders with incomplete 'sync' icons for days after everything has sync'd so these can't be trusted. Make sure you understand how it works and don't absolutely trust the change status you see either on your device or on the web.

Define how it does and doesn't work? And if you have sync issues perhaps you need to check your system or internet service.

But I do agree with this part... :)
Make sure you understand how it works

It was worth it because I didn't have any choice if I wanted to upgrade. I also remember downloading files and programs before there were download managers. If the download was interrupted for any reason, I would have to start all over again.
