Solved Computer keeps turning back on

I see, I had to enable launch CSM, then I get to enabke legacy. So back to proper drive recognition

My Computer

So it’s true that I’m always forced to change from default

My Computer

Seeing now with all else default if it will happen again, but I honestly think it might. Will tell you, but please check these and see if anything stands out as possible to interfere and shut down your system, and keep starting it randomly.

My Computer

Yeah they’re MBR. I’m just trying to find my legacy section

This is from MY BIOS manual... it should be similar to your BIOS settings...

On the "Boot" tab...
The RED boxes need to be selected for a GPT disk.

The BLUE boxes need to be selected for an MBR disk.

Image1.png

On the "Advanced" tab > SATA Mode.... needs to be set to whatever it was set to when you installed Windows.

Probably AHCI...

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I chose UEFI and legacy. It’s all good. The drive is recognized again and booted into windows. But it isn’t the original issue. These were all changed back to default. So if you see anything that would cause this with these. Let me know. But I’m just leaving it on and testing it now. Wouldn’t be shocked if it did it again. Hoping not. It can run for a while, then suddenly start shutting down out of nowhere. Both drives and with no drive. Doesn’t seem to be booting on it’s own since I changed the bios. But can’t day for sure yet

CSM is weird.. some motherboards like it Enabled, some don't. You'll have to experiment.

For the RAM... you need to use CPU-Z to see what the RAM is supposed to be set as... then manually use those settings in the BIOS....

Here's mine for example...

OK... my RAM has the manufacturer's specs of 3200Mhz, CAS 14 and 1.35 volts.
The "before" is what the RAM set itself to in the BIOS.
The "after" is when I fixed it...

0000000 RAM Settings.png

0000000 RAM Timings.png

Get the ZIP version of CPU-Z... that's the "portable" (no install) version.

You MUST set the RAM's frequency, timings and voltage to the manufacturer's specs, before you save and exit

If you don't set all three, properly... the computer won't boot.
You'll probably... still be able to get back into the BIOS to try again. So try to get it right the first time. :-)

Your BIOS may also have an XMP setting, which should auto-set the RAM.
That's more of an Intel thing though, and I'm an AMD guy.

well my ram is just auto now on the BIOS. Don’t know of it was related. CSM manages the legacy and UEFI on mine. So I’m forced to launch it. I can’t say what will happen. Just running a video on it in repeat to see how long it can stay on

My Computer

I used to set the ram but it’s probably better if I just leave it on auto incase there’s any relation to this. Don’t think it is though

I type slow, and have to look a lot of things up to answer your questions.
Short version... read the things I added to post #28

@Marcus Vinicus just called me on the Bat Phone, and said he'd take over. He's an Intel guy. :D

And make sure you do what @MisterEd said in post #14

It’s all back to default

Remember... when you get everything in the BIOS working properly....
go to the Tools tab and save the BIOS to a "profile".

There should be "eight" profile slots?

And fill out your computer specs on this forum....

And you can get your Windows version by typing: winver in the Taskbar search box.

It helps us, to help you, if we know the Windows version and what hardware you have. :-)

the system is running now, I just hope it stays this way. So far decent. Can’t say for sure yet

My Computer

Damn it. So it just shut down on it’s own. I was letting a video play just to keep the screen on and it just shut down. So this is with the BIOS all default except that legacy, CSM on setting. Ofcourse that was on since built with no issues. I’m hoping it’s not motherboard damage from a power interference. But it was in a surge protector. Any second idea?

My Computer

I was blaming the psu or motherboard, but being that it runs, it probably isn’t the psu. Maybe i should run that windows ram checking test
