Ok then.. you may need to take it to a PC shop. That or find someone who's good at repairing laptops/notebooks. If you don't have the part it's going to be hard to move on from here.

I wonder what sort of "clip" it is.

I'm not very familiar with laptops. Some connections I've seen were done with small ribbon cables. The end of the ribbon cable is just pushed into a mount, part of which flips down to clamp the cable. If something like this has come loose, no repair would be needed: just flip up the clamp, insert the cable, and flip it down again.

If it's not something like that, I imagine that the usual "repair" would be replacing the motherboard.

Either replace motherboard or do some soldering.

Is the clip plastic or metal? I did something like this once after disassembling anreassembling a laptop - found a small bit of plastic had snapped off from somewhere. Wasn’t till I put it together I could see where it was from - under the mousepad - so left click sagged a bit but still worked lol. In that case I just put up with it. But it was probably fixable.

You’ll need to take the back off again to see exactly what needs supporting from behind the power button. It might not need soldering if it’s a tiny plastic clip.
It’s a total pain when something like this happens. I once spent ages replacing a few things to get a perfect working laptop - then the screen died.

A professional could probably fix it but that would cost and you were planning on selling so probably would eat into any profit quite a lot.

Here’s a power button board from this machine (or similar model). Looking at it, you might just have a loose connection.

If the button is anything like the one on the 13”, it’s tiny and thin.

I am going to keep the computer for a few days to make sure the tape doesn't come undone by powering the computer up and down each day and then once I feel it is ready, I will gladly give/sell the computer to Susan. Hey.. when the new owner sees the tape I hope they take the time to ask some questions about that. I would hate to see it break again and the new owner having to take it to a shop. I honestly suspect more is wrong with the notebook.

I asked my sister as she is Susan's daughter in law and she said it shouldn't be an issue. There is nothing wrong with the computer other than it can't run Windows 11. It's too slow to run it which means it's incompatible. I have tested it all day, and the computer hasn't stopped working as I have left it on all day.

She will never see the tape as it is inside the computer. She is thankful to get a computer. There is nothing else wrong with this computer. But I will be putting Windows 10 back on it.
