Bought a device says dont over Discharge Meaning?

clause then it probably means nothing other than steer clear of that retailer in the future.


I assume this is a device containing a rechargeable battery.

Taken literally, it would mean "don't run the battery down to zero"; I can't say I've ever heard that kind of advice for a rechargeable item.

If it's a tiny PC Vac, maybe they're talking about static discharge.

Don't let the battery run to zero or you will damage it.

My first thought when I first read your post was that whatever you bought must be using old tech batteries. Today's batteries are much more forgiving when it comes to us letting them go dead too many times as has been suggested. Your not really giving us much to go by. Do you have a link to what you bought?

I suspect that, unlike a computer, the vacuum cleaner has no battery management system so you are expected to manage it yourself:-
- don't use up so much of its stored power that the battery cells damage themselves if their state of charge is too low, and possibly,
- don't leave it charging when it has become fully charged [because the vaccum cleaner might attempt to keep charging the battery despite it being fully charged which will age the cells prematurely].
I have one like that.

It's not as convenient as, say, laptop battery charging but it's not catastrophic.
I suggest you contact the retailer and ask exactly what they mean by "over discharge", what exact state of charge they are referring to and how you will be able to tell if you are reaching that limit.

I seen the title of this thread and entered it thinking I was about to read about a medical emergrency.

Don't over Discharge (As mentioned) would mean > Do not let the battery drain fully. So if there is an indicator on it, recharge the battery when it gets to about 10% (5% at most) left on the battery..
