My current system has been designated fully compliant by the manufacturer for Windows 11. I will not be upgrading right after release, but will eventually upgrade. My Spouses system is not compliant so it will stay Windows 10 until end of support date. Then most likely Linux.

Voted no, will run W10 until supported. After that, I'll decide between a Linux distro on the Intel PC, or just get an iMac...

Nice... I wish I could get a Ryzen 5 3600 but my budget will not allow it. I have 2 cats and a girlfriend to look after.
Incidentally, that is the exact same CPU I ordered yesterday for may daughter's PC upgrade. Ryzen 5 3600 is the sweet spot in CPU performance. I thought it will be more than enough for video editing summer camp that she will be joining soon.
I also got the Gigabyte B550M DS3H mobo to pair with it. I guess, her PC upgrade will last her until she can buy her own PC... hahaha... she's only 10 years old right now.
Hopefully, if everything I've read about this CPU and mobo combination is right, it will be able to handle Windows 11 with fTPM.

Hardware prices have nowhere to go but down... I am sure by the time you have a budget, you'll be able to get a better one than what you are planning to get right now.

I just bought this HP ProDesk "refurb" in March. I have no plans on upgrading any hardware (I did just add an SSD however) and from early indications on how win 11 is, I won't have any urgent need to (I failed miserably on hardware requirements anyway). Windows 10 is good enough for me.

Besides, I've only just returned to using windows, not used to win 10 yet. I'll try to stay on windows for at least till this fall, it's gonna be hard though...

With the increases at the pumps I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for prices to drop.

Spending a lot of money for new OS, that is kind of sick. I have Asus M32CD with 8G DDR4 and rendering video works great. I use Vegas Video. I may upgrade the video card (2G) but that is all. It does what I want.

As long as your license is attached to your microsoft account, you should be fine. That is what "digital license" is about.

Tx. This was my understanding :

"When installing Windows 10, the digital license associates itself with your device's hardware. If you make significant hardware changes on your device, such as replacing your motherboard, Windows will no longer find a license that matches your device, and you’ll need to reactivate Windows to get it up and running. "

I have more than 1 computer using the same MS account.

Two cats and a girlfriend? I hope you don't mention it to her in that order. (Unless she's a serious cat lover.):)
She loves cats.. she rescued one of them

I'm going to upgrade both of my desktops. Just for grins one will be an AMD 5800, the other an intel i7 in the US$400 range, whatever that might buy me. I also plan to use the PCIe x4 NVMe drives for boot/system, probably in a 1 or 2 TB size. 32 or 64 GB RAM and yada yada yada. I'll be recycling my GeForce 1070 Ti cards, until 3070s drop down to the US$500-600 level. Sigh. --Ed--

You are gonna love the PCIe 4 mated with NVMe SSDs.

Nice... I wish I could get a Ryzen 5 3600 but my budget will not allow it. I have 2 cats and a girlfriend to look after.

Uh...I might change my mind and upgrade to a 5950X in ~3 months or so.

If I do, I'll be sure to PM you on my 3950X - it's a year old this last month, but I've used ThermaGrizzly's Conductonaut and never OCd other than the auto OC in the UEFI Settings. It's never broken above 60 °C, and I have gobs of cooling in the rig.

Just in case you're interested - if it happens soon.

But if you do go ahead and upgrade in the meantime, no worries - I don't expect you to wait for ~3 months for me to make up my mind.

I can wait.. I hope to at least get the new processor in Sept., and I can figure out how to get a graphic card/chair in Feb/Mach. I also can figure out how to get a CPU some time in that range
