Hello,

Two weeks ago, my Dell Mini tower 3910 started showing frequent critical events in the reliability monitor-Microsoft Storage Spaces SMP stopped working. This happens once or twice a day. It can occur by itself or with another fault. I'm at a loss to determine the cause.

I back up with Macrium twice a month, use Malwarebytes Premium services., have no infections, items in quarantine or other significant problems.

Is this a known defect? Is there a solution?

Thank you for any assistance and ideas.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry no one has answered. You gave little info in your forum profile. None at all regarding your disks. What is you setup?

It would be helpful to anyone reading this thread if we had more info. Are you experiencing any issues when these events occur or is windows recovering gracefully.? Please expand one of the events with its details and post a screenshot. It may provide helpful information if there is an issue with one of your disks...
A screenshot of disk management would be good, too.

@zbook may want you to gather logfiles as per instructions here. He should answer when he sees this flag. BSOD - Posting Instructions
Gather the logs into a folder, zip the folder, and upload the zipped file to any cloud provider. Provide a shared link here to the zipped file .
He can analyze them and provide further assistance.

Thank you @glasskuter. I haven't posted because I don't know how to extract those details. These events happen without notice if I'm working in Windows. The only way I know they did is through the reliability monitor.

Let me see what information I can gather on my own and post back.

Well it's good to know Windows is recovering from the errors and your system is not crashing. Have you set up a storage pool within storage spaces to create a virtual drive?
These storage spaces typically store two copies of your data so if one of your drives fails you have a copy.

Thank you for your patience @glasskuter.

Setting up anything is quite beyond me.

I have identified my Drive with Task Manager. Disk 0 (C:) NVMe CL4-35256-Q11 NVMe SSSTC 256GB.

If this is helpful, tell me where it input on my profile. New to this forum & stumbling in the dark.
Thank you.

Storage space messages usually relate to the drive issues. Without seeing the full event I can not say if your message is pointing to the drive or the storage space process itself.
First run Dell diagnostics. Support Assist should already be on your system. Dell Diagnostic Tools to Diagnose and Fix Hardware Problems on Your Dell Computer or Tablet | Dell US.

I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. If you have only one drive I can see no reason Storage Spaces should be running. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Storage Spaces to double check that no pool is configured. If not, go back into services. Stop the service. Right click on the service and change startup type to manual. Restart and monitor to see if the errors stop.
