Gaming on Windows 11

GOG's on my list of things to do. Did you know that GOG now sells a lot of older star trek games that are now playable on modern machines? IE: Bridge Commander & such.
And the classic RPGs I love, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights.....

Ahh yes... Baldur's Gate... The only one that I know of that you can actually convince a whole bandit camp that you're their leader, and they fall for it... lol

Far Cry 6. Pretty smooth considering that it has yet to receive its first patch. Crashed 2-3 times in 52 hours played. Probably not Win 11 related.
I'm waiting for the first Direct Storage game. Any news on that?

Id imagine the developers for the games will announce that, None of the current big games support it that im aware of. News on it will be specific to each game/developer

On Steam, I've tried Ultimate Fishing Simulator, Ultimate Fishing Simulator 2 (BETA), Fishing Adventure, and Fishing Planet. No issues at all

I installed all of my games (old ones) on a storage drive.
I just have the shortcuts on the desktop.

And like mentioned above, I did an In-Place upgrade to get from Win 10 to Win 11, so even those shortcuts came along for the ride. :)

For the occasional game that stores the saves on the C:\ drive... I just used Karen's Replicator. I then created a "job" in Karen's to copy the Save files to a storage drive, also.

Like... Tower of Time (2017)...

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
Same here, that way after I clean installed 11, all I had to do was point the client at my games drive, and it finds the files.
Everyone who doesn`t do that, needs to learn to do that, if possible.

Here’s Why NVIDIA GPUs Could Get Even Cheaper

Sorry if I am off topic but I am planning to move over to W11 very soon so all this information much appreciated. Just trying to get all the gaming hardware up to date before I hit it with the software. Had planned all this a while back but I got a little disgruntled with the crypto miners. Good news is Nvidia pricing has been dropping fast all Summer and should bottom out this year, so thanks for all the great comments and see ya soon.

I'm running three old games. They work fine.
Icewind Dale II, Microsoft Links 2003 (golf), and the original Zelda.

I just finished Tower of Time... a 2017 game.. no problems.
Microsoft Links 2003 (golf) can I run it without an optical drive? I used to love playing it on Win 98

Other old games are hit and miss on whether they will work on Windows 10 or 11. Sometimes fixes are developed so an old game will work with Windows 10 or 11. This could be from individuals or even the original game developer.

One game that didn't work without workarounds on Windows 10 was GTA IV & GTA EFLC. Rockstar provided a free upgrade that combined both games into GTA IV the Complete Edition. This works on both Windows 10 and 11. Note the original two games required the game DVDs to be mounted to play the games. Of course GTA IV the Complete Edition did not require that since it was a digital download.

Games that require the original CD/DVD to be mounted to play the game are another matter. I know it is considered taboo but the only solution I have found is to use a NoCD fix for the game. I see nothing wrong with doing that because I own the games that I do that with.

Note this is only a problem with the older games I have. Most of the newer games I have are either digital downloads or come on DVDs but don't require the DVD to be mounted to play the games. Once the games are linked to my game accounts the original game install media is no longer required unless I want to reinstall the games offline.

I just tried to install Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. I then added the fixes I used to get it to work on Windows 10. Unfortunately, it did not work with Windows 11.

Quake III: Arena runs fine on my laptop with Windows 11 Home. I installed it from its original CD running on my desktop. It didn't require the setup CD to run.

Unfortunately, running the setup CDs on my desktop to install on my laptop did not work with Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005). It came on 4 CDs. I ended up creating ISO files for the 4 CDs and mounting them one at time on the laptop as required for the installation. Running the game requires the 1st CD to be in the CD drive. The game did not accept mounting the ISO for the 1st CD. Since the laptop doesn't have a CD drive I had to use a NoCD fix to work around that.
