Getting a setup error on AMD chipset drivers

Hey gang,

I am trying to upgrade to the latest AMD chipset drivers. But it keeps erroring out on the unpack. I tried to reinstall the latest MS VC redistribution program. Still no dice. Here is a screen shot of the error I am getting.

Interesting...the VCRedist you need is included with the latest chipset driver...should work out of the box

It is not guaranteed to work well, if BIOS is not up to specs too...I would not bother unless having issues with the older driver.
...anyways...that package also contains VCRedist, so no need to install external ones...Something else must be wrong in this Windows instance.

I used the Visual C++ all in one, and the 5.02 chipset driver, and had no problems.



@Ernimus Prime

You should probably temporarily disable Kaspersky... that could be part of the problem.
Also... sometimes it helps to uninstall the older chipset driver...

I tried both restarting PC again and Disabling Kaspersky. Still no dice on installing and have same error. Is there a way to delete the file that it's unzipping? Not sure what folder is safe to delete. Thanks

If I understand the question... just running Disk Cleanup should empty those temp files created by the unzipping process.


I don't know if these things matter, but...
If you have Bitlocker turned on, you may have to turn that off.
And I don't know if Core Isolation and/or Memory Integrity would affect a chipset driver install.

I'm curious about this. You shouldn't need any extra visual drivers for the installer to work normally. Matter of fact the AMD drivers is the first install after a fresh clean install of Windows. Before anything else is installed.

    I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.
I am still having this problem. I tried uninstalling the old drivers and get the same error. Not sure what else to do. I tried repairing. Uninstalling VC runtime and reinstalling. What's weird is, I checked the files in system32. And the 140 dll is there. Is it something to do with the AMD installer when I installed old drivers maybe? Just dumbfounded

@Ernimus Prime Have you tried running the installer as administrator?

Also, the AMD installer makes a folder to unpack the installer to on your C drive called \AMD You should be able to go in there and delete the contents of that folder before the install. I always do when I update. It's just less to go wrong and it eats up a lot of space on my SSD and the contents of that folder aren't needed except for install/uninstall. That is also where that MSVCP140.dll file lives if I am not mistaken. What I suspect is happening to you is that the installer is looking for that file and can't find it. It should find it in the AMD folder once the installer unpacks. So either the file is missing from the installer, which I doubt or other people would be complaining, or the dll file is corrupt in your case.
