Windows 11 Home 25H2
Hi.

So recently I went through the process of re-installing entirely Windows 11 Home.
A friend of mine told me that one of my HDD was a complete mess because it had plenty of partitions. I did not needed the data because it was encrypted with True Crypt like 15+ years ago and I forgot the password.

Anyway, he reinstalled Windows 11 but on the wrong drive. In others words, Windows is now on a HDD instead of an SSD (C: is now D: )

I guess that I have to go through the process of reinstalling Windows again ? Before that, I would also like to know why I can’t add a french layout to my Windows (I‘m using OSK to type any special character.

Thanks for your help and suggestions ! And happy new year ;)

Aurel.

Settings > Time & language > Language & region > Click on the 3rd down (Language) > 3 dots on the right > Language options.
Scroll down to Keyboards > Add a Keyboard.

A very convoluted route to get there.
Put "Add a keyboard" in the settings search and you get zero results, thank you Microsoft.
No idea whether 24H2 changes that.

Many backup programs such as Macrium Reflect will allow you to clone a drive. Clone your HDD to the SSD, disconnect the HDD to verify that you can successfully boot from the SSD. Then you can erase the HDD.

Good call: hsehestedt. That's what I was thinking, too. I had nothing on the keyboard stuff, though. Maybe one of our internationalist mavens (is @Kari around?) could help out with that.

I wanted to thank everybody who helped me fixing this problem !
I think Helmut provided the best reply. My keyboard is now perfectly working and I'm very grateful for help !
I had to do some additional things because at first, when I was holding "alt gr" and "3" I could not get "#".

Trivia about programming language :
C, C++ and then
++
++
= C# : I think it is how MS came up with C# / Sharp

I really don't have any about about how it happens. I was in the "Canary" channel, I left it. Now I'll just keep Windows up to update with version than has been tested and are working.

I guess, next time I will want to experiment some Windows preview builds / feature, I'll be using VMWare and see how it goes. In other words, if something go wrong, it will only affect a Virtual Machine and not my entire drive !

Thank you for your assistance !
Best,

Aurélien.

P.S : Whether I can recover or not the lost data is another question. Maybe, if nothing has been overwritten yet !
