If it's a Dell, there will be sticker on it that gives the exact model.

That would be useful information to those trying to help you.

The Windows certificate on the machine probably doesn't include the license code. Appliance PCs like Dells use a different licensing. If the PC is new enough, the license may be embedded in its firmware.

This is a refurbished computer. Refurbishers licensed by Microsoft get COA stickers with product keys printed on them:

Anyone tried the winkey+shift+left/right arrow key shortcut to move to other monitor - just in case it was setup with an external monitor attached?

I agree, a clean install would have been the first thing I would have done. Because the problem happened as soon as the computer started, I'm thinking that this problem could be more than just a bad OS install. If it's a hardware issue such as a bad drive, the seller might look for any excuse to avoid exchanging it or refunding the money. I'm not saying the seller is definitely dishonest. I'm just saying that they should wait until the seller responds before doing a clean install.

That'll learn me to comment on commercial PCs, new or refurbed.

To make it simple and clear. This is what I'm thinking. The seller may have the attitude of you bought it from me and I want to do everything I can do to get your computer working. Or they can be the, we sold you a working computer and you screwed it up and because you installed your own Windows 11, we're not going to help you. Can the buyer report it to eBay or their credit card company? Yes, they can. Once they start messing with it., it makes it easier for the seller to say. they made changes to the computer that is beyond our control so we're not going to honor our guarantee.
