I just bought a windows 11 computer and maybe I’m an idiot but I can’t seem to get anything to come upon the screen if I click on get started it comes upon the taskbar but it won’t go full screen Help please

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you write. Can you clarify?

"Get started" sounds like the out-of-box experience in setting up a new pre-installed Windows installation. I could be wrong about that - I don't buy prebuilt PCs.

Ok I just bought a new computer with windows 11 pre-installed I clicked on the start menu and on it it has get started so I clicked on that and it comes up on my taskbar but it won’t open up so that I can see what it is I have tried other apps on my computer and none of them will open I have never used windows 11 before

Welcome to Eleven Forum

Is this PC connected to the internet? Quite a few of the built in apps on Start are not actually installed, but will be downnloaded and installed the first time you try to use them. This of course requires a working internet connection.

It's one of Microsoft's built in apps in any install of Windows 11. In a clean install it will be listed as the first item in the Recommended section of Start.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
I can’t open settings to connect to the internet just like the getting started app it will show on my taskbar but won’t open

Something isn't right. If you bought it local, I would take it back. As @Bree said, some apps will have an icon but have to be downloaded before you can run them. Settings isn't one of them.

sounds like someones either sold you a dud or it has not been installed properly or someone used s counterfeit disc just to get rid of it

It has the authentication code sticker on the computer so I would assume that’s it’s a proper version of windows 11

Anyone can legally download and install a copy of Windows 11. It would be the key used to activate it that would make it legal or not. I've never experienced a problem like yours. My guess is a bad install of the OS. Is the computer an OEM computer or did they build it to your specs?

Not a lot clearer, for me at least.

I was mistaken about the out-of-box experience. This is what it would behave: OOBE

If you press the Windows key and R, does that open up a run box? If yes, type "winver" (without the quotes) into it. That'll report whatever version of Windows is installed.

Have you ever used Windows 10? It's not identical, but it's similar.

It could be helpful if you post the make and model of the PC. That would allow more specific advice.

Not really surprising, it's not really useful unless you have never seen Windows before. Running it up for that screenshot was possibly the first time I've ever opened it ;)

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

I used to use windows 10 but my computer crashed and so I decided to buy a new one from eBay and because it was the same price but with windows 11 I bought the windows 11 one now I’m wishing I had just bought the windows 10 computer The computer is a Dell core i7 with 16 GB ram I hope that helps
