It was a second hand one so it's going back for a refund. I now have the 2tb drive and no laptop to put it in at present! But I've seen another one ......... I thought it was a good option for slim laptops due to apparently running cooler.

The 2TB should work in just about any computer with the connector for NVMe. :-)

Yep I think so :-) The new ram will have to go back though if I end up getting a different model of laptop. I think 2TB storage will see me for a long time now though.

According to Tech Power Up it's definitely one of the cooler running brands of NVMe, probably due to all the layers. I'm just curious about what sort of reserve capacity this NVMe has. The 1TB Platinum version has the WD Black SN850 beat on every bench score they did, which is quite impressive. So far, I've read a lot of positive reviews. Always good to see an underdog pull ahead of the rest. :)

Ha ! The EBay Aus offer on the Hynix Gold P31 2TB has just dropped the price to AUD$115 - currently equivalent to GBP60.

At that price, I've bought one. If there's any interest I could comment in about 3 weeks on it's everyday performance.

Yeah, that's not happening in Canada. If I could legitimately get one of those for just over 100 bux I'd buy it too, but I wouldn't want a used one.

Silly ending - the puzzle is revealed.

The EBay page advertising and selling this had been mis-programmed. The advertised price did not change when clicking between the 1 and 2 TB models, and the advertised item was the 2TB remained at the low, low price !

So I had an email with my invoice/receipt at AUD$115.29 for a 2TB - good, it seemed. Then this morning another email turned up, sheepishly commenting that my order was "out of stock" and offering a refund. Re-checking, the price now changes between the 1 and 2 TB models, with the 2TB now about double that previously listed.

Too good to be true, but too silly for the seller to avoid embarassment. Perhaps clickbait, but it's not a very useful selling technique :sneaky:

Re-checking, the price now changes between the 1 and 2 TB models, with the 2TB now about double that previously listed.

Too good to be true, but too silly for the seller to avoid embarassment. Perhaps clickbait, but it's not a very useful selling technique :sneaky:

Ayeeup! Looks like I called it. Wish I were wrong though. They probably shipped 1TB until people started complaining "excessively" and did the patch up later. This is a typical tactic of dubious EBay sellers out for the grab. Often the aftermath matters not. Once they have the cash in hand they will take the money and run. Meanwhile, disputing a thing takes time and there's no sure guarantee that you will be refunded the fiat. EBay has improved on this somewhat, with respect to preference granted to the buyer. The "out of stock" alibi is an old stand by for when things get too heated. Prior to this the damage has already been done and the sad thing about it is that many of the buyers don't even realize they've been had.

Speaking of 1TB SSDs I just pulled the trigger on one of these yesterday.



It'll serve her well on her Dell XPS 435T/9000 Studio PC which is quite capable of running Win 11 (once it is tweaked) without issue.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
Well I got refund for the laptop with the faulty screen and have bought another one that's almost identical which should be here in a few days - so can still use the same ram I ordered. And the P31 2 TBssd.

So the second laptop had a faulty screen too and had to go back. Different fault. Second hand four year old laptops aren't what they used to be. And - the one of mine that packed up recently was only four years old too. I used to think HP laptops were reliable. Maybe just bad luck - but I don't think a lot of 10th generation laptops were built to last 10 years like some of my older laptops.

Still waiting to use the Hynix SSD and having a rethink over what type/age of used laptop to get.

Ok I've just bought a new one - which hasn't been made for a year or so - clearance stock at John Lewis. Always liked these but they don't make them any more. HP Pavilion 13 Aero. Ryzen 7, 16 gb ram, 16:10 screen reduced to £670 as part of a clearance sale. 2 year guarantee included. It comes with Windows 10. Never had Ryzen before but it had rave reviews.

My criteria are very picky - comfortable keyboard and small touch pad, proper charging socket (not just usbc), screen without pwm. It fits the criteria and my current one is an HP Pavilion. I really don't like large touchpads. It doesn't fit all my criteria as the ram isn't upgradeable - but not many are.

This model apparently has a known issue with wifi disconnecting but apparently a driver update fixes it. although some people replaced the wifi card.

Just came across it tonight and I'm very happy I haven't had to spend £1000 on a new one. Shame it didn't come with Windows 11 preinstalled though.

As it's Ryzen I don't know what's what with generations. Do they have generations like Intel?

Part of the reason I was looking for a second hand laptop was because I wanted a smaller touchpad. So am happy abput this laptop! I'd still like to put the P31 2tb in it but I guess that would invalidate the warranty - possibly.
