I'm really careful about recommending any OS or software to anyone without asking what they need it for and what they have for expectations and how much new things they are willing to learn. :-)
I think you might have seen me saying Linux is not for everyone and Linux is not windows in the same way Windows isn't MacOS.. i and if they need some software that wont run in Linux, and also why they want to switch OS. then they should think twice before continue down the road.
But i never tell them to stay away from MacOS or Linux.. or the other way around.. Stay away from windows.
That is their choice :-)
I show them the door and what to expect, and then they have to make the decision to walk thru it... or walk another way. :-)

Edit:
as for OP here.. if he has the possibility to install Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC IoT, then he will have security updates to 2031 :-)
Unfortunately he has to backup his data and do a clean installation for going to the LTSC version. He can't upgrade from a standard Windows 11 version, not even from Enterprise. But if he's willing to install a new OS anyway, it's better to choose Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC. More familiar OS, compatible with his current applications and hardware. Nothing new to learn.

There is a catch though. As far as I understand they don't install hotfixes or patch vulnerable system files permanently, they patch vulnerabilities in real time while the system is running. So if you decide to stop paying for 0patch, obviously all this on the fly protection will stop leaving your system exposed to threats. So once you do it you must keep renewing the subscription or switch to another OS. Think about it.

If your target system is the computer in your specs, it is a 3rd generation Core-i5, it supports SSE4.2 instruction set, you should be able to at least clean install Windows 11 26H2 if for some reason you cannot upgrade.

See it on the positive side, you have a lot of different options to choose from, then non option at all. 😀(y)
so in a way you can say the dark winter evenings ahead can be a lot of fun testing different things. 🤓

If you gain experience, you might even earn some money by upgrading your friends' computers to Windows 11. Go out there and show them they can run Windows 11, no matter what Microsoft wants us to believe. I read that nVidia plans to release one last GeForce graphics driver for Windows 10 64-bit in November and then it is Windows 11 only. Most likely AMD and Intel will follow. So all gamers with a reasonably fast GPU in an unsupported computer will be delighted to hear that they can make it run Windows 11, if they haven't already.

PS: Don't even think to suggest Linux with Wine or whatever. You have much better chance running a game on Windows 7 with DirectX 11 and outdated drivers than on Linux.

Neither do I.... i always say.. use the right tool for the right job.... :-)

You don't fix a roof leak with a spoon even if you can.... you use hammer and nails to get the work done fast and easy..
So why in the darn should people use Linux to run Windows software... Windows for windows-only software and MacOS for Mac-only software.. yeah and the same for Linux.. And if people don't want to dualboot or have several computers... Running VM's is easy in 2026. 🤓
So i always say.. don't make it more complicated then it needs to be.
(the exception of the rule is when you do things for learning, then complexity is a good thing)

Yes, I have a virtual machine for every OS I want to experiment with and learn, no need to dual boot. Plus when something goes wrong or I don't need the specific virtual machine anymore, I just delete its files. I experiment with Ubuntu, Zorin OS, Linux Mint Cinnamon among others. Guess what? No matter how easy they make them, it's still Linux and no match for the ease of use and compatibility of Windows. If Windows is the genuine sugar, Linux is artificial sweetener. Close enough but not exactly the real thing in taste. And if you overdo it you can even harm your health. Similarly if you overdo it with Linux you harm your mental health...

Similarly if you overdo it with Linux you harm your mental health...
🤣:scream:

i actually have windows that trying my mental health...
I have killed everything with automatic updates and all that.. and that part is playing nice as expected after my mods..
But then yesterday i was working on a document and another darn digital identification software updated and triggered an forced reboot and i lost 7-9 minutes of work as i had autosave set on every 10 minutes..

i HATE with a passion auto update software..... :ffs: it really tries my nerves.. and my mental health. :cautious:
But i get you on the Linux part too, when i have dig down deep in kernel tweaks and dont have documentation to cheat with.
