Downloaded Win 11 22H2 via Installation assistant but when trying to update it I get error code 0x800f0806 when trying to download CU KB5017321

  • Already run sfc /scannow
  • Already run the Windows update troubleshooter
  • Already ran DISM
Any ideas?

i will try the pause updates trick.

Resetting the Windows Update components can usually solve these types of issues.

Thanks but it didn't fix it, I ran the batch file, did a restart, ran the update and got same error again.

it seems odd to me that if i look in update history it still shows all of them going back to August last year, previously version updates would clear the history. Its also odd the only feature update still showing is the Insiders preview.

I could do a repair install, it wouldn't be first time on 11. Just odd it broke so soon after the ISO.

How do I find out why it did it?
the update logs don't tell me anything I didn't know.

I don't see point in running repair install if it just might happen again

would it work if I downloaded the cab and ran update from it? not sure what link would be to it anyway.

Wondering if it was the Installation Assistant as I have found one other person with same error who also used Assistant instead of an iso.

This error can be corrected by performing the update manually.

To perform the update:

1. Access
2. Download the update "2022-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based operating systems (KB5017321)"
3. Run the ".msu" file and wait for the update to complete.

Thank you, @marcoslau, it did the trick in my case, and I was finally able to got this update.

Funny thing - once I installed it via the offline package, WU did another re-install of the same pack :).

Requires allowing downloads from other than the Microsoft Store.
Same thing here, WU didn't recognize the installation and re-installed the same pack.
All is good and now at 22621.521.

I had exactly the same issue. What worked for me:

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

As you can see it was ran twice. Next:

explorer ms-settings:storagepolicies

then scroll down and 'Run storage sense now', when finished go back, select temporary files, wait for things to calculate, mark them all up (including previous versions of Windows), and select remove files.

Then:

wsreset

And:

cleanmgr /sageset:1

here mark all options up and run:

cleanmgr /sagerun:1

Next:

del /a /f /q "%windir%\temp\*" >nul for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /ad /b "%windir%\temp"') do rd /q /s "%windir%\temp\%%i" >nul del /a /f /q "%temp%\*" >nul for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /ad /b "%temp%"') do rd /q /s "%temp%\%%i" >nul del /a /f /q "c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download\*" >nul for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /ad /b "c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download"') do rd /q /s "c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download\%%i" >nul del /a /f /q /s "%windir%\prefetch\*" >nul ipconfig /flushdns dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded

After reboot update downloaded just fine.
