Hey
@cybergrandma . Nice to have you here. Welcome.
I have no knowledge of using a non-English keyboard so hope you work that out. Regarding Thunderbird, good stuff here
Client Challenge
--------------------------
I haven't used Thunderbird in years. Because it had so many options, it took me a long time to get it set up to my liking, but once I did it suited me well until I changed to Outlook. I made a few notes back then. They were written over time in a hap-hazard manner. Whether they still work or not, I can't say as Thunderbird has gone through many updates since then. This is stuff I gathered from various places across the web. Maybe some of these things that irked me irritate you as well. Here are a list of TB notes I made back in 2021.
--------------------------------------
IF "OPTIONS" IS MISSING IN TB
If the menu bar is not displayed anymore,
right-click on the new Thunderbird button and activate the menu bar again. You need to open the advanced configuration if you want to display the title bar in the email client again.
ENLARGE FONT SIZE
options-all way to bottom-config editor
in search box type'devpixels'
right click on 'devpixelsperPX-modify
default value is -1.0
depending on screen size change this value to any value until you get size you want.
(ex: 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, etc) 1.5 is good on 27 in.screen)
-----------------------
CHANGE FOLDER COLORS
Right-click on the folder > Properties > General Information > Icon Color
-------------------------
BACKUP THUNDERBIRD if you want to use it on another machine
COPY C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles
also profiles.ini
This backs up everything
Paste this into new Thunderbird installation in same folder as above
-------------------------------
INSTALL ADD-ON FROM FILE
In Thunderbird, click the menu button and click Add-ons, or select Tools > Add-ons.
Click the gear icon at the top-right corner to the left of the search box and then select Install Add-on From File…
Browse to the location of the add-on installation file, select it, and click Open.
Click Install Now once the button is available.
Add-ons that are from addons.thunderbird.net are reviewed by Thunderbird volunteers.
If the author is verified, the author name will be displayed.
Restart Thunderbird to complete your changes.
----------------------------------
TO INSTALL ADD-ONS FROM WITHIN TB
Click the menu button and click Add-ons, or select Tools > Add-ons.
Click Extensions.
Type the name or keywords of the add-on you want in the search field and click the magnifier icon (or press Enter).
Select the desired add-on from the results list.
Click Install.
----------------------------------
TO IMPORT .CSV ADDRESS BOOK or PROFILES
Export your address book and profile (if applicable) from another email application.
For WLM I first had to backup address book-go to server and import it-then export from server to a file before importing into TB
install ImportExportTools add-on from here
ImportExportTools NG
"Make sure addon is for version of TB you are using"
USE UP/DOWN TO ALIGN FIELDS
---------------------------------------------------
TO SYNC ONLINE CALENDARS AND ADDRESS BOOKS
install TBSync add-on from here
ImportExportTools NG
Use TO INSTALL ADD-ONS FROM WITHIN TB (above) to install the add-on
---------------------------------------------------
SPEED UP THUNDERBIRD
Set some interface options
Edit Thunderbird options under Preferences → Advanced → General tab, click on "Advanced options" button and set these values: Tools / Options / Advanced / Config Editor.
layers.acceleration.disabled = true
and
gfx.direct2d.disabled = false
and restart Thunderbird. If it is still slow, try the next options:
Disable AeroGlass
Disabling the AeroGlass interface makes the interface reacting much faster. Install the "NoGlass" Addon which is available in the Thunderbird addon repository.
Disable Folder Indexing
If you have folders with many emails inside, Indexing can slow down Thunderbird. Go To Preferences → Advanced → General tab and disable the Global search.
To get address book on toolbar- Open Write. Right click in space on Toolbar. Click Customize. Make sure to drag your Contacts button onto the Toolbar. Click Done. Now click on that Contact button and the Address book should appear.
At the bottom you can select multiple address for to, cc, and bcc
To get delete button on message list
click the tiny little icon on far right of the date column
(its a little bitty square with an arrow pointing down), you can add the delete option to message list.
