Solved Latest Macrium Reflect 8 updates

Tested v8.1.8595 and found an issue when restoring an image.
I had created new USB media so it had the v8.1.8595 of reflect.exe on it.
I created an image then tested restoring.
Three out of three times when the restore got to 99% this message popped up on the screen.
Clicked OK.
All partitions were restored correctly but have never seen this message before.
Recreated USB media and still had this message on restore at 99%.

Of course we'll find out soon enough ... I'm a little surprised that there is even an update to V8.1. Macrium has shown some grace here.

Hence my comment above.

I wonder if we start seeing some prompts to update or similar.
I even noticed a slow down in speed in the previous update. I haven't tested this version though.

I got the same message as KevTech and my test restore finished.


EDIT: I made Macrium the default app for .mrimg files and that message did not appear.

Thanks. Essentially Win 11's habit of requiring every file type to be nailed down. Normally, updating with an msu file preserves the app choices already made (fonts etc as well, of course), but a Repair Update destroys them.

You're right, that happened to me during the test. My restore restored the previous boot menu (8325) which does not
produce that message. So I updated everything to 8595, made a new backup and it produced that message.

So its the new rescue media that has the issue.

You shouldn't be surprised. Reflect v8 is in Extended Support. That means no new features, but it will get security and platform compatibility fixes for one year following the release of the next version, Reflect X. The Extended Support for v8 ends on 8th October 2025.

What would be a surprise would be an update after extended support has ended, but even that has happened before when MS made a change to windows that broke all versions of Reflect....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. The latest update looks like one to miss until fixed. I'll probably update to Reflect X when support for v8 ends in October.

In case this error happens, are there reasons to fear that part of the restore, even only 1 sector, hasn't been restored? If it were me I'd restore again with the previous Rescue Media if available (I use to store my RM isos along with the images), but maybe it's overkill????

Actually it is just the USB media that is messed up.
I downloaded v8.1.8325 from macrium then installed it and created USB with that version.
Then upgraded to v8.1.8595 but did not update the USB media.
Tested restore and all worked without any error message.
If you no longer have the previous version installer you can still download from macrium.
Go into your account and copy the download URL then replace the v8.1.8595 with v8.1.8325 in the URL.
