We now know the trade in offers that will be available to those with older V8, v7, and v6 one-time licences, and for recently purchased perpetual v8 licences.

If you purchased on or after July 1st, 2024, you have three options;
  • Continue using Reflect 8 for as long as you want. You will continue to have access to 12 months technical support from the date you bought the licenses.
  • Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year of support from the date of purchase) and receive a 3-year Annual Plan at no extra cost. Macrium may make loyalty offers available at the end of your 3-year term. However, even without a license, Reflect always allows you to restore/recover your data (you won’t be able to make new backups). We’ve also made your backup files open-source - it’s your data and you own it.
  • NEW: Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year support from the date of purchase) and receive 50% off the normal annual plan price for life (must turn on auto-renew and not allow the license to expire/lapse).
Home users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best. Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option from the grace period will be published this week.

For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:
You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:

If you choose 50% off annual plans for life, you will have to trade in your current Reflect Home V8 license.

If you choose 3 years for the price of 2, you can keep your Reflect Home V8 license. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)

For Home V6 & V7: We are offering 3 years for the price of two. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)This offer ends March 31st 2025.

I downloaded the X trial today as 8406. It has just updated to 8447. I'll do a backup and restore now and see if it glitches.

8447 is a bug fix for a UI issue found in 8445.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

@Bree . Am thinking of buying a Reflect X licence. I'm using 8.1 at the moment. There is a post on the Macrium X Forum "Reflect X Subscription Licence Not Recognised " under Disk Imaging. Do you know if this issue is common or limited to certain pc configurations? Don't really want to start messing around with workarounds and would rather wait until the issue is patched in a Macrium update. Am assuming the resolution isn't included in the latest patch? Thanks.

Apparently, under version X and the new subscription, the Macrium code for identifying where the license belongs has some issues. For people with multiple ACTIVE network paths (LAN & wireless) and, apparently, certain System configurations, the license keeps getting lost forcing the user to reregister the license on that machine. Not a big problem but a bit of a pain. Enough users are experiencing this issue that Macrium should be looking for a solution... but in the meantime, a workaround is available.

It appears to be a relatively rare problem. Part of the licensing seems to involve the MAC address of one of your network adapters, and depending on which one it used it may cause issues. I'm running Reflect X on my primary desktop. Roughly about 8 times over the past week it's complained about my license and I have had to select the option to transfer the license to my PC, although that license has never been used on a different computer. At first I thought that the issue might...

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Thanks for the info. Macrium I believe are aware of the problem and hopefully will address it in a future update/patch. I had a look at the workaround on the Macrium forum and decided to hold fire on buying X until it's sorted. Thanks again

Still no mention of fixes for MBR disks restore failure so yeah, no. Combined with the money-grubbing-rent-an-app subscription thing, I think it's time to abandon Macrium all together and just switch to Hasleo Free.

The Reflect X image and verification was 20 minutes faster and some 12GB smaller than that of Reflect v8. Not the 2x speed increase Macrium have claimed, but then verification was a significant part of both times.

I have just ran verification on its own. It took 25 minutes. So for Reflect X that make the time just for making the image 26 minutes, and for Reflect v8 with some 9% more to verify would have been a little over 27 minutes, so its imaging would have been about 43 minutes. That makes Reflect X about 1.7 times faster for imaging.

I have just upgraded to a new machine as my Hyper-V host, and moved all the VMs to it. There's now some 345GB to image. I have repeated the speed test comparison with High compression selected for both.

This machine has a faster cpu, a Core Ultra 7 instead of the previous machine's 10th gen i7. It has a larger SSD too, so the images could be saved to a Data partition on the same internal NVMe SSD instead of an external USB drive. These two factors meant that both v8 and X were much faster. As before, Reflect X was faster than Reflect v8.1 and produced a smaller image file, 147.34 GB vs 162.91 GB.

Times for imaging and verification were 12 min 03 sec for v8 and 5 min 05 sec for Reflect X. That's 2.4 times faster with Reflect X.

The v8 verification took 1 min 39 sec, for Reflect X it was 1 min 18 sec.
So imaging was 10 min 24 sec for v8, and 3 min 47 sec for Reflect X. That makes imaging with Reflect X 2.7 times faster than v8.
