Installed studio version 580.97 when Nvidia app announced it was available. Almost immediately I started getting CLOCK WATCHDOG TIMEOUT crashes on a machine which had formerly been 100% stable before and after upgrade to Windows 11 24H2. Installed backleveled driver 577.00 and crashes have stopped. I'm not a gamer or a developer so I think I will hold off updating drivers just because they're ready.

I don't know what is with these newer NVIDIA drivers but I no longer trust them. Last time I tired one on my new Core Ultra 9 machine it couldn't wake from sleep and would then BSOD. Went back to the Dell factory version and no more issues so I stick with only factory graphics drivers now. I was told they are tweaked to your machines specific hardware and tested for that hardware.

Dell does not make the Nvidia drivers or any other drivers for a laptop or desktop.
All they do is provide drivers from the manufacturer of said component that they know works in a particular laptop/desktop.
Most times these are older drivers.
Also, you have to make sure you download the laptop drivers from Nvidia if you have a laptop and the desktop if you have desktop.
The app gets confused sometimes and downloads the wrong version.
I do not install the app as it is not needed and can cause issues.

The Dell OEM GPU drivers are customized to match our conservative BIOS, system parameters, and the GPU OEM VBIOS.

In any failure, Dell will ask you to remove the retail driver, install our OEM driver, then retest.

The one listed for mine is very old. When I do install a new driver from NVIDIA , my Windows partition increase from 45+GB to 60. Then I have to start de-bloating.

If you ever decompile the driver package from Nvidia and Dell you will find the driver files are all the same.
No such thing as Dell OEM as they did not make the chipset.

I was quoting Chris M. from Dell. Sorry if this was not obvious to you. (I even provided the link-pay attention)
I have no intention of decompiling the driver package - or do you mean unzipping?- decompiling is totally different-.
And no one has ever claimed that manufacturer made their own drivers, I don't know where you invented that from.
Maybe for individuals such as yourself, we should specify 'OEM Tested and Approved drivers', for the rest of us OEM drivers will do.

I imagine some of them are the same but if nothing else Dell will test the driver for full compatibility on your system before releasing it for your system on the Dell Support Site. And yes that will put their drivers behind the latest released from NVIDIA but at least I know they will be stable and not cause issues so that's good enough for me.

I was quoting Chris M. from Dell.
Person works for Dell so of course they would say that as to say otherwise could get them maybe fired.
I wrote the wrong thing as I meant extract the drivers not decompile.
Here is the EULA from the Dell driver package and as you can see it is all Nvidia and does not say anything about Dell.
Also what the Dell driver package looks like when you extract them from the installer.
It is all official Nvidia driver files.
Even setup.cfg has no mention of Dell in it.

I have moved on now & I honestly don't care.
But confusing decompiling & extracting is scary to me.

581.08 still fails with a black screen when installing on Canary.
Again, I had to use RDC to bypass the problem. 😝🤬

Are you installing just the driver or all the bloat that goes with it?

I don't know what is with these newer NVIDIA drivers but I no longer trust them. Last time I tired one on my new Core Ultra 9 machine it couldn't wake from sleep and would then BSOD. Went back to the Dell factory version and no more issues so I stick with only factory graphics drivers now. I was told they are tweaked to your machines specific hardware and tested for that hardware.
My machine is an OEM build (Digital Storm) with an ASUS GPU (Nvidia GTX 1650). I've never had problems updating to the latest Nvidia drivers until now but this taught me a lesson. I've always stuck to the Studio version since they're implied to be (more) stable. I remember the bad old days when video drivers were always causing problems and I don't want to revisit that.

I tried either way, and it has the same problem even on a clean install of the Canary build 27924.
NVIDIA never tests on insider Builds. 😝🤬

When I install it is with just these files from the installer.
Only reason I install PhysX is I have some old games that need it but if you have no old games you can omit that as well.

NVCleanstall looks interesting. I've never used it before.

I see it's signed by TechPowerUp, but there is also an NVCleanstall website.

It's developed by one of the TechPowerUp devs (W1zzard). That site is not legit:

Could be malware/spyware posing as a legit app. Nvidia GPUs are rather expensive - and quite a lot of their High End GPU costumers - are infamous for being really gullible IT wise. Thus, faking GPU apps - seems to be deemed as a good opportunity by cyber criminals - to clean some of their bank accounts. Not the first GPU app in this situation - MSI Afterburner was targeted as well:

No one really knows until you compare everything as this is what NVIDIA says:

1755644117565.webp

Basically, one is supported by the OEM should something go wrong including a warranty replacement and the other as in NVIDIA provided drivers are generic and you are on your own and assume your own liability. At least you know one has been thoroughly tested by the OEM while the other is YMMV.
