Looking for a few options for new system

Right or wrong... This is what I just bought....

And a add sata card..... Very cool ...
Nice.

Are you planning to use the USB 3.2 type C header on the motherboard?

I presume that with all those drives (including opticals), you're using a case that may not be of recent design. It may lack a USB-C front port, and a cable for it that used the MB header.

Will you need to upgrade your PSU to support the two 8 pin CPU power connectors?

Things have changed a little, over the past 10 years.

Instead of going crazy looking for something with that many SATA ports, consider an expansion board It's probably easier to find a motherboard with an extra PCIe x 4 slot and use one of these Vantec 5-Port SATA III 6Gbps PCIe x4 Host Card (UGT-ST655) boards.
I need 6 SATA ports total. I got an 8 port expansion card for not much money on eBay, for an x16 slot. Works perfectly. Just be sure to read any descriptions about "mode" and check back here if you're not sure. Or ask the seller.

If you're looking for fast data transfer speeds that Tomahawk is the cat's meow. You've got USB4 on that beast so you're good to go. If you want to able to boot to your OS fast check your "quick boot" settings in the BIOS. I deliberately set mine to a 9 second delay but that's because I like to take my time on boot. You definitely want your operating system to be on NVMe for quick boot. After that you won't notice much difference in speed from a regular SATA SSD until you start doing file transfers. NVMe to NVMe is like crazy fast. Even then NVMe to SATA is nothing to sneeze at. Have fun! :-)

I'm going to be messing with it tonight for the first time.. I did driver's and have not had time... The bios is going to be 1st on my list... I was shocked how long it takes to boot. I thought it froze but it finally went.. I did it again to just see if that was a fluke.. It wasnt... I've read some on the msi boards and going to look around... I bet the delay setting is on more than 3 sec.

I've seen DDR5 motherboards go through some sort of RAM training on their first boot. That can take a while.

Subsequent boots are much faster if the training isn't repeated. I wonder if there is a BIOS setting that needs to be changed so that doesn't happen?

How long is long? My primary system takes about 40 seconds to boot to the login screen. During most of that time, the boot diagnostic LEDs are lit. The same thing occurs with my #2 system.

This is a fact. RAM training does take time but once the BIOS has it all sorted out it should not keep on repeating itself. Perhaps this will be of some help.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
That video is good... I need to find fast boot... I was getting memory error but memtest says mem is fine... I have a bit more to go.

Glad to know it could be of a little help. Just checked your PC specs and they definitely don't reflect the Tomahawk build in this thread although they are still rather impressive. VN latency on that RAM. I'm wondering if you might be able to XMP it or if it's just stock RAM. Sorry to change the subject. I also run an i7 6900K in my main. They OC very well. I have no clue where fast boot would be on an MSI UEFI/BIOS. I only work on MSI system boards when they're brought to me and the leaders in my locale are ASUS, ACER, DELL, and HP. I have yet to work on a board sporting DDR5. It looks exciting.

There could be a number of things that are causing your system to behave like this. Of course, the tech support @ MSI may be better qualified to help you with this. If it were me, I would try booting with just one stick of RAM first. I would also check the MSI web page to ensure that I had the latest BIOS for the CPU I was using and any chip set drivers that need updating first before calling tech support.

Not sure if this can help or not. Sadly, I've no experience with the newer MSI boards. My personal preferences with desk tops (depending on the area of use) are predominantly ASUS, DELL, GIGABYTE, and ACER.

Also you might be able to glean something out of this:

My experience has been that every company has the good, the bad, and the down right oglee. If I were in the market that MSI would be tempting enough although I am familiar with ASUS and nearly all the mains in my house are ASUS builds. TBH I've had a few bad boards from them as well so there's really no telling until you have the board in hand. Methinks ASUS tends to overcharge too much. GIGABYTE was notorious for bad UEFI interfaces but I haven't worked on any of their newer boards as of late. I've heard that they've improved. I do know that a few years ago ASUS was getting real sloppy on quality control. Let's hope they've pulled up their socks since then. If you get that board let us know how it's working out for you. I'm very curious. :-)

Clearly that's a gaming board. In fact that looks to be a Ferrari. I'm more of a utility guy myself, but I've built many gaming rigs over the years for people. I did eventually build a modest one for myself and it's also an AMD build. Not a Ferrari tho. More of a Mustang. I'm not sure if I could even handle the idea of having only a couple of PCIe slots on a system board. I'd probably keel over from shock. Still, those are pretty impressive specs. Buildzoid would probably love a board like that. He's always complaining about not having enough USB connectivity. I haven't checked the price on that thing yet and I'm not sure if I want to. All that AI stuff scares me. Nonetheless user preference prevails. Keep us posted. (y)
