Macrium update notice - legit?

Today I received a download msg tht Macrium had an update. Did not click as I am getting leary of clicking on ANYTHING anymore. Went into my Macrium program and clicked on menu -- Update. "no updates available" -- so don't know. It may be legit but shouldn't the program show that?

Thoughts? Thanks...

What version information does your current installation of Macrium Reflect show and what version was the update offering? We can lookup whether you are on the latest version or whether the version you were being offered is legit. You can then download any new version manually from the Macrium web site.

Hello - V8.0.7783. I don't recall unfortunately. I'm sure it had a V but did not take note. I'll check the Macrim site. Thanks.

Your version a few numbers ahead. I would think my version would be looking for an update, wouldn't you. I went to the Macrium forum site but could find anywhere to see what the latest version is. Probably your number.

Yes reflect usually runs in the back ground so it may also prompts for updates.
Task manager/ startup and disable reflect if you don't want them but if you use auto backup just live with it and this time click yes update.

ok great -- thanks. When I hit the link -it doesn't go to my downloads folder. Don't know where it is going. It looks like it kind of makes a motion then disappears. It must be being blocked by something on my pc.

I'm still running the free version on one machine and sometimes I also get the notification of an update to it and it invariably fails. Just a glitch I think and doesn't happen often.

I run Reflect Home on four of my machines, but I have more machines than licences so I also have Reflect Free on the others....

Your v8.0.7783 is the latest update for Reflect Free and, now that Reflect Free has reached end of support, it's also the last. Macrium will be issuing no further updates for Reflect Free now that Free has been retired. Details of Reflect Free are in the bottom half of post #1 here:

Where did you see this 'download msg'? There are two legitimate places that Macrium could tell you about updates. The first would be a pop-up window with update details when you start Reflect, the Title of the Window will be 'Macrium Reflect Updater' and typically would look like this.



The other place, if you have notifications enabled, would be a flyout notification at the bottom right of your screen. If so it may still be in your Notification Centre. Have you checked?

A third possibility is that it was legit, but not telling you about a new update. Rather it may have been a notice from Macrium suggesting you buy Reflect Home v8.1. I think I may have once seen something like that with one on my Reflect Free machines.

Anything other than the above, then you are quite right in being 'leary' of it.

That link downloads the Download Agent for Reflect Home, and if you haven't bought a licence you can only install it as a 30-day trial.

For the Download Agent for the latest version of Reflect Free the link is:

I get an email whenever there’s an update but it contains my license key so I know it’s legit. I doubt there’ll be any further major updates to the free version but possibly minor security updates once in a while.
Do the links & the ‘From’ point to a genuine Macrium webpage?

No, there will be no more updates. Reflect Free was retired over a year ago. Since then it has been in Extended Support until 1st Jan. 2024. During that time it received two further updates: Macrium Reflect Patch Details

So if I can only use it for 30 days, I guess there's no point in me downloading. I will just stay with the version I have. Does that work? Sort of confusing...Maybe I'll check out other backup programs. Thanks.

You can download Reflect Free v8.0 direct from Macrium with the link I gave in post #11. That has a perpetual licence and you can use it forever, or at least, until Windows changes so much that it stops working. That's unlikely any time soon, I have Reflect v7 still working on some machines and I've seen posts by other still using Reflect v6.

There have been multiple instances of reporting an update is available however in reality there isn't one. I have seen this multiple times using the latest "Free' version. I have to assume it's just an update glitch and a false update notification.

And for further info I literally was clean installing Win11 today and as soon as I installed the latest free version of MR up pops up the notification that a newer version is available however it was the Home 8.1.xxx version.

I believe you are getting update messages because Macrium is automatically checking for updates which can be turned off in settings. I don't have Macrium 8.0 to check where that is but in 8.1 it's under 'defaults'. Poke around. You'll find it.
