Make the active task more obvious in the taskbar

With the finally added feature to move the taskbar to the top,I move it to the top and switch to small icons
This makes the taskbar very small(I like it)but it's kinda hard to see the which is the active window in the taskbar
I just have a tinny line on the active tab

I was wondering(I have seen it before but I don't remember how to do it without installing anything extra)if i can somehow make the active window(task in the taskbar)be in a different color or have some border around it
Anything to make it more obvious

If you absolutely need deep control over taskbar behavior and colors, native settings won't suffice. Windows power users often rely on UI customization utilities like Windhawk, Start11, or Winaero Tweaker to inject custom styles or modify taskbar states beyond Microsoft's default design constraints.

Maybe you can change how many time active flashing app color other than that there is no registry trick i know of.

@vsub go into settings and select personalization on the left. Now click on colors. I chose a dark green for my taskbar and start page. There is a light line under the open apps on my taskbar. See if that will work for you.

I use SAB..., everybody's doin it, or similar. You have to, Windows 11 is natively lame in so many areas! 🤷‍♂️

  • You are limited in what you can do natively in Windows to improve it. Small icons on taskbar reduce the underline’s visibility. Switching back to normal size increases the underline thickness.
  • Enable Show accent color on Start and taskbar
    Pick a dark accent color if your taskbar is light, or a light accent color if your taskbar is dark.

  • Otherwise you will have to use a 3rd party app as has been suggested. Yes SAB is paid but cost is minimal. WIndhawk is free.
