Microsoft Account To Be Mandatory For Windows 11 PRO - Panic !

I wonder how many people here who are whinging about needing a Microsoft Account have a Facebook account, or a Twitter account, or an Amazon account, or a grocery store account, or perhaps use Google, or Bing, or Spotlight for searches - all of them actively track you across sites, they actively market your details. There is no shortage of online services who track you and yet you are getting annoyed at Microsoft for doing the same as all these other services are doing - and the truth be known they are doing less than many of them as Microsoft acknowledges and openly publishes what they will collect, how it is anonymised and what they do with that anonymised data - very different from the personal data collected by all the other accounts that you use.

Get real, wake up and smell the coffee because this is the world we have all created and live in, - you cannot get off and go to live on some other planet, so learn to live with it and get on with life.

Oh, I don't give a sh*t about all that!
I just want to be able to set up with a local account so my User folder doesn't look stupid, in light of my hastily prepared throw away gmail account...

Then again, I'm sure MS thinks I am one, so..., fitting, isn't it!!! :zany:

I just stopped resisting and used a microsoft account. I quite like it now. It doesn't seem to do any harm and it means when I sign into a new PC it remembers my wallpaper and colour settings. And all my previously purchased apps.

I also gave into it when needing Microsoft family to keep an eye on what stepson was up to - which is quite useful. It sends me an email every now and then telling me what programs and apps he's downloaded and so on. Plus settings to limit what he can do. Although that has changed now as he's worked out how to turn it off lol. Saves my MS Office key for easy download on a new computer etc and also saves my Windows Pro licence for easy upgrade when reinstalling. Now I've got used to it I also have a firefox account which is great. If I sign in on another computer, all my bookmarks and passwords are instantly there. If I need to clear cache and browsers it's a piece of cake resigning into everything again (saved passwords and logins)

But can someone explain to me why - when I put an emoji at the end of a sentence on here, it then won't let me type after the emoji - which is why this one is at the end and not after "I quite like it now" :)

Microsoft is also said to be removing all those tricks. Another reason for the complaints.

I don't have a problem with an MS account...,
... just don't name my User folder with the first 5 letters of my email..., trust me, mine's embarrassing!!! :censored:
Yeah, that's a real pain. I've only once used my MS account when setting up a computer - to keep a license after changing motherboard and CPU - and was unpleasantly surprised to find the first 5 characters of my email as my profile name. Luckily, the technique for changing that is well documented in the TenForums Tutorials ... and I sure hope I can find it again because I'm about to run into that problem again.

I just ordered a Surface Pro 8 for my wife and it comes with Win 11 Home so I'll be using my MS account to set it up. My next step was going to be to upgrade to Pro so I could use local accounts. I thought Home didn't support local accounts at all. It looks like (for a while, maybe) I can fake it on a Home installation. (But I have other reasons for upgrading to Pro so I probably will.)

However, I think I don't understand this thread. I MS threatening to remove local account support altogether, or is it just the initial account that has to use the MS account? And if local accounts are still going to be supported, is there a reason that that initial account cannot be changed to local?

Thank you, I hadn't seen that one before. Though @Brink has a similar one at Step 16 in his Clean Install tutorial. I've just tested installing W11 Home with a 22000.318 ISO (the current latest one made by the media creation tool) and it works as described. I set up Home with just a local account.

Being forced to use anything is just not right, in any society. People have choices that is why Linux exists..

Hey Josey.

I'm being forced to use a keyboard to reply to this message. I'm being forced to wear clothes when in public. I'm being forced not to break wind in front of children and and ladies. I'm being forced to drive cars that consume fossil fuels. I'm being forced to be gainfully employed at the risk of being homeless. I'm being forced to tolerate police officers instead of make rude donut jokes. I'm being forced to live in a world where STAR WARS, LOTRs, and HARRY POTTER are a 'thing'. I'm being forced to consider Disneyworld as the happiest place on Earth. I'm being forced to recognize THE MONKEES as cool. I'm being forced to know Kayne and Kim's business.

Linux? Doesn't quite work by itself. It forces you to use the terminal.

After you type something then click on the emoji you want to use, then just click after the emoji to keep typing. Did it work?
hmmm ...... nope - is it my computer? I cannot click after the emoji! All that does is highlight my typing and the emoji as if ready to delete

Can you try the spacebar after the emoji? What color is the highlight? Like it wants to correct a word? Try letting it correct a word then do the emoji. Are you putting a space between the word and the emoji? Or try just clicking somewhere else in the window then behind the emoji. I don't think something is wrong with your puter.
