I'm also thinking about those who buy a new computer and are limited by their internet access. MS could load the whole shebang in new computers (as they do now) but activate only a lean and mean OS. Then activate apps for money, either subscription or perpetual license, but nothing to download.
You want to pay extra for the apps and programs that are already included with the OS? By the time one buys the MS apps or programs they want I see it being more costly then what it is now. The OEMs don't pay anywhere near what it cost us to buy a copy of Windows so I don't see it lowering the cost of a new computer enough to make it worthwhile. I think we need to agree that we see this differently and move on.
Yeah, we see it differently indeed. MS bundles a lot and the kitchen sink with the OS and sells the bundle for $$$, not good for consumers. Better for consumers is to pay for what you actually use (I don't need a kitchen sink for my laptop)
Do you really think your going to save a substancle amount of money by MS doing what you want? The OEMs are geting the best price available from Microsoft with or without the added MS software. Well, I didn't want to frustrate you, but yes, I do believe that the bundled 100 apps cost substantially more than the 10 apps that I actually use, how can that be any different?

AT&T was broken up by the government, a very substantial reason therefore was their bundled services, everybody had to pay for the bundled services whereas everybody use only 10% of the bundled services.
I wish the government would step in and unbundle MS' OS + 100 apps
