Microsoft Photos App New Update

Huh???

After reading this post, I just printed this image from the "Photos" app to an Epson XP-960 printer and it printed fine....

What Epson printer are you referring to???
Epson ET-8500 is what I have... If I use the Microsoft IPP driver mine prints too... if I use the driver from Epson, I get the "Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied" in the Event Viewer describing why the print failed to print.

That seems odd to me. Have you checked you have the latest driver installed? I see there is a "Windows 11" driver available.

Anyway, you getting an "access denied" notice says there's an issue beyond just the "Photos" app. Are you the admin of said machine? Also, have you tried printing from another photo/image app?

I have the Latest Epson Windows 11 driver (ET8500_X64_30102_NA), the latest Adobe DC version and I am the Administrator. These drivers work perfectly using Microsoft Paint and Photoshop... if I right click an image and select print, the old Windows Photo Viewer menu pops up and everything works as perfectly... no "access denied" errors ever. Do the same in Photo App... then the "access denied" error appears. When Windows 11 Insider version 25136.1000 was the latest version (about 2-3 weeks ago), Photo App worked correctly then. My printer works perfectly with this Microsoft IPP driver and the Photo App

OK. I just know my "Epson drivers" work with Photos for me as shown. Don't know what's going on with your machine, but the "access denied" should be concerning. BTW, I just printed this from my old (2014) Epson 3880 and it too printed without issue...

Microsoft Photos using Epson 3880.jpg

And for clarity the first post where I printed from the networked Epson XP-960 was on Windows 11 insiders (build 25140.1000), with the older version of the Photos app 2021.21120.8011.0. On my desktop running Windows 11 RTM (21H2, latest build 22000.778), and the lasted version of Photos (2022.31060.3004.0) also printed without issue; so that's two different Epson printers on different versions of Windows 11, and different versions of the Photos app.

And BTW, while I don't have Adobe DC, I do have Acrobat 2017, and well as subscriptions of Lightroom and Photoshop. That said, I would never print my photos from within the Photos app. In fact, I don't even use Photoshop, since I have a dedicated printer RIP for my photography prints.

I've tried all the changing permission bit in system32/spool folder... it's possible I've missed something, but nothing made any difference.

I recognize that print menu in Windows 11 build 22000.778... Windows 10 style lol. Image 1 is of Photo App build 2022.31060.3004.0 and the print menu... this won't print using the Epson driver and will print with Microsoft only drivers. Image 2 is a similar print menu from Microsoft Paint and Image 3 is using the print command from Explorer.exe.
The last two will work correctly using Adobe DC Printer or Epson printer using Epson Driver. Personally, I believe the current build of Photo App has some sort of permissions issue since Paint and Explorer.exe work perfectly.

This particular Build of Photo App doesn't like my Epson or Adobe printers... I'm getting the "Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied." error.
Yeah... honestly, I think it's your system otherwise we'd all have the same problems. As I've shown I'm able to print from two different Epson printers on two different versions of Windows 11 with different versions of Photos, to include the latest version.

And if you can print from other apps that shows there's an issue elsewhere not the Photo's app itself.

I wish you luck in solving your issue as I have no further suggestions.

Good luck.

Far as downgrading... I'm not sure how get the previous version as it probably would fix my issue.
The first version of 2022 (the Redesigned Photos App).

The link is safe! (I already have it installed).

You can install it by double-clicking on the appxbundle file (before that, you have to enable Developer mode in Windows Settings). Or install it by PowerShell command.

There’s a lot more going on here other than my printer driver… I’m wondering if it’s something to do with requiring a Microsoft account for the Pro version setting permissions to that individual only? I’m going to do a Windows 11 install from my OEM rescue USB and create a local account then update to 25145.1000 that way. It’s definitely some sort of permissions issue. Not sure how to bypass the need for a Microsoft account directly with these new insider builds

How many users/user accounts are on the PC, and why I asked are you the admin?

Anyway, I use a Microsoft account to log into Windows and its never caused any permission issues. You might need to look at you user account, or if other issues are popping up you might consider one of the following....

Good luck :)

I have two users (both Administrators) and I’ve not had any problems before using a Microsoft account… I’m positive it’s some sort of permissions problem somewhere.

We seem to keep saying the same as I've been told you that. I just don't believe it's the photos app as you can print from other sources.

Anyway, I posted some solutions (which you quoted) to look into.

We seem to keep saying the same as I've been told you that. I just don't believe it's the photos app as you can print from other sources.

Anyway, I posted some solutions (which you quoted) to look into.

Good

I have everything working… it seems Insider Builds 25140.1000 and above is blocking the print spooler. I installed 22621.160 and everything works perfectly now.

Good luck.
After a long evening of testing and trial and error, it’s very apparent to me the insider build 22621 has an issue if there’s multiple users (a shared .NET dll file in the Windows App Folder is causing Photo App crashes) and 25140+ with Epson printer drivers. I installed Windows 11 21H1 (OEM Version) and all issues are gone concerning the latest version of the Photos App.
I have two users (both Administrators) and I’ve not had any problems before using a Microsoft account… I’m positive it’s some sort of permissions problem s

I guess I'll have to try it again... I see that Windows 11 insider preview build 25151 mentioned this... "Fixed an issue causing printing to not work from UWP apps for some Insiders in the last 2 flights."

They (Microsoft) are hearing us (users) from 11Forum. :woozy:

They have updated the Photos app with some new features(!):
1- Centre shortcuts have a fixed position (their alignment won't change by resizing the Photos app window)
2- Always-show filename (in maximizing or resizing mode)
3- Photos app icon from the left side of the file name has been removed (to make more room for the file name in resizing mode)
4- Two new items have been added to the Menu
5- The home icon has been changed to the Multi-Photo icon (after a click on the "Browse all your photos and videos", there is no option or back arrow to bring back the photo viewer mode)

Please consider these features(!) in the next update (thanks in advance!):
1- Add the "Delete" option and "Edit with Paint" to the right click
2- Remove the "Rotate" and "Add to Favorite" buttons from the top centre toolbar (move them to the "Edit image")
3- Remove "Create a video with Microsoft Clipchamp" and "Edit photos like a pro from the menu"
4- Please, please, please add an option to disable "Filmstrip" permanently

New update released: Microsoft Photos 2022.31070.26005.0

Just two items have been removed from the 3-dot menu (the menu is more simple now  ). The "Create a video with Micramiere"* is there yet (on top of the menu)!
*Micramiere= Microsoft's Adobe Premiere

New update released: Microsoft Photos 2022.31090.16004.0

Change log (SS below):

info.png

Love:
1- "File info" button has got back to the top bar (also on IMG RC) ❤️
2- "Copy as path" has been added to settings (also on IMG RC)
3- "Open in File Explorer" has been added to IMG RC (=Right-Click)❤️❤️
4- "Delete" has been added to IMG RC with a "Red" colour!:thumbsup:❤️❤️❤️

Hate:
1- Right-click has a lot of empty space on the left side :woozy:
2- "Filmstrip" is not sticky yet (every time has to be manually disabled) 🤢
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the Legacy (!) Photos app icon is excellent (I love it), but the new one is rubbish! The new one has nothing to do with Mountain!

icon.png
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The new Photos app does not install any Add-ons automatically (yet!).

addOns.png
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft said: It has no video editor. But it has!

videoEditor.png
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "Settings" page has something missed. That is "Disable Filmstrip Forever":
