Microsoft Photos App New Update

Is IG (ImageGlass) running slow for you? I have a high CPU usage issue. It's very sluggish and takes seconds to start/load.
BTW, I am using the portable (win32), not the Store version. I am working with both (Photos vs IG) to see which one would be the winner.

Yeah, seems to be the nature of Runtime apps!

The opposite is true! Win32 apps are significantly faster than XML-based apps on Windows 11. Many users (also coders) have reported poor performance with XML-based apps on Git, X, and Reddit. I am also experiencing similar issues myself. I suspect that this poor performance is due to poor coding.

I don’t get why you keep reporting on this app if you dislike it so much?

A simple photo viewer is very important for me cause I use it on 7/24!

I really like the Windows Native photo viewer app. It used to be terrible, but now I'm a fan! You can read my previous posts on this thread about my story !

I'm reporting as feedback and request, as Microsoft is monitoring these reports (with CoPilot, AI ). It seems they even heard my feedback about the Filmstrip feature on this thread and X, proving that they are open to user feedback !

Overall, the app is simple and easy to use, but the new Navbar at the bottom could be improved. Without it, it would be one of the best basic photo viewer apps available.

Fair enough answer, but no, they don’t read one complaint and act. That’s borderline grandiose/delusional. You’re probably right about the Ai though.

Whenever I attempt to resize the window (I do it a lot), the cursor suddenly goes to the fullscreen button (bottom right corner), and Photos automatically goes fullscreen. It seems like a poor (idiotic) UI design decision. Previously, the corners were simple with just a 1-pixel thin border without any additional clutter. Why did they change it? I think they did it just for the FilmStrip button. The entire toolbar is now at the bottom of the UI just for implementing the FilmStrip button.

Maybe they think that the less options visible, the more recourses and better performance available. Maybe they remove things because it’s easier to just remove something than work out the conflicts they have created from adding new functionality? Are you sure it isn’t a setting? “Show ****”

I am interested in it, but still don’t know why I would use this when I pay for photoshop. You also have a PS subscription, don’t you?
I suppose because I run 6 monitors, I don’t worry about all this, each app used sits in its own window. Photoshop uses 3 for all the toolbars seperated. Then Fontlister an other apps, and Bridge has it’s own monitor.

I don't know if you have heard about the new mask icon in Photoshop's layer palette in version 2024 25.1.0.120? There were many complaints on the Photoshop forum and user voice page, but the good news is that Adobe has implemented an option to hide the icon in the next version. It's impressive how fast they reacted considering they are a giant monopoly tech (graphic) company. It just goes to show that even big companies need to adapt to changes to survive.

Yes, there's no option to hide the navbar. I have to disable the zoom options just because of the Filmstrip button! It's ridiculous. They have to move the bar on top (its original place, the title bar) to be unified and harmonized, with no clutter, as you say, less resource usage and better performance. It's reasonable.

When you are working with photos (and do simple editing like crop and resize) more than 100 times a day, I don't think you work with Photoshop! A big bad fat boy! You need a slim featherweight instead! A Photo viewer (editor).

Photoshop is always open on my system, it starts when windows boots, so does Bridge. I am not suggesting MS doesn’t listen, obviously they do. Companies don’t get this large from not listening... But it takes a majority. Or for a designer to like or be inspired by suggestions.

If you take a look at Dribbble, you will discover many old User Interface designs that are present in the current Windows UI. It seems that Microsoft has been inspired by these designs . However, they are not very creative themselves, but are more like sharp pirates! They seem to prioritize making money over creativity. Whenever a startup begins to grow and become a potential competitor, Microsoft (swallows) buys them up to prevent any competition.

This is normal behaviour, by design. It’s smart business and a normal objective, to make money. It isn’t a charity and shareholders need to be appeased.

Companies lose themselves and implode when trying to modernise apps, I think. But one also maybe needs to ask, was there a majority of users looking for these changes that they were implemented? Or is MS testing the waters which is something we know they do. Until a balance is found. And remembering that you don’t generally hear from the content customers. Complaints will always without a doubt, drown out compliments.

I know nothing about the economy/business, and I don't care about it. But I have one of those specialists in my family who once upon a time was the Economy editorial (English version)! I have heard a lot of such nice sentences about making money with a speck of dirt (no offence) thoughts before.

I’ll remind you, you are a consumer. You buy a product or you don’t buy a product. You can leave reviews, ask for a refund, even make a suggestion, but it’s the prerogative of the business if they read your review, give you a refund or take on board your suggestion. Don’t ever stat a business if you think it’s just for fun, it’s a money making enterprise. Those who don’t like the way something performs generally move onto something they do like or learn how to make their own, anyone remaining suffers the consequence.

But Microsoft does, it started as a business for the intent of making money, it will continue to do so for the same purpose, their software enterprise isn’t a charity, but they do support them.

This app is a work in progress. It will eventually balance out and people will be left with two choices, use it or don’t.

As I noticed, the whole life is more ridiculous and fun than you think. I had many crashes nearly to death. I had my terrible car accident before COVID, in which I was almost dead, with no scratches, just because my head bumped the roof of the car (trying to mimic Ken Block!! ). I lost my best friend in an accident, and I learned I should never take it (life) very seriously ! My fun side of the character is probably from my mother. She is an absolute fun person. A gentle face while making a joke about a serious situation, even in horrible circumstances. All these things don’t mean I can’t understand business. I bet you I can understand business even more than many CIPs!

AFAIK, every time humans tried to make the world a better place for life, they ruined it and ended with an atomic war! I am waiting for the next close one! I (somehow) was born and lived in a jungle. All my childhood was in the jungle. I prefer to rely on nature and the wild instead of humans! I (we) had many animals and have yet some and have learn many things from them. The best one was my Black Goat, I missed him.
The only thing I care about in my life is the existence of two people (!), my mother and my little sister (actually my whole family, my father and the Big sister , the older one), they are my breath. Everything else has the role of a toy for me!
