Modern Stanby Power Consumption

Like others I have a new Dell laptop (XPS 15 9530) that has implemented Modern Standby rather than S3. If I do set my power config to sleep after a certain period of time my Macrium Reflect jobs can’t wake my laptop.

After reading thru several threads here on this subject it appears that if I set my power config to turn off my display (I use an external display and keyboard) but set sleep to never (which does allow my Macrium Reflect jobs to wake my laptop and run) the power consumption is effectively the same as setting it to sleep. I just want to verify that I am interpreting those posts correctly. Can someone confirm that this is true? One thing I have noticed that is different is that when I have it set to sleep never my external keyboard is always lit up but when I actually set sleep to on the keyboard light is off. That would indicate to me that their is some power consumption difference.

To answer my own question:

I used one of my spare HA metered plugs to test. When sleep/Modern Standby (S0) mode is activated power consumption is approximately 10w. With the display off but not in sleep/Modern Standby (S0) mode power consumption drops to approximately 40w at the lowest. So it appears, at least from my testing in my environment, that setting it to “sleep never” and not allowing the system to enter sleep/Modern Standby (S0) is not equivalent to actually allowing the system to enter sleep/Modern Standby (S0) mode at least not from a power consumption perspective.

Microsoft really needs to add the capability for applications to programmatically wake the system from sleep/Modern Standby (S0) mode.
