My Zenbook (I7 16gb) won't update.


I did a lot of research. The error you are getting seems common amongst i7 chips.

1) go to system32\driverstore\filerepository to find the folder with the REALTEK drivers.

2) right click to show Security tab

3) click on Edit

4)then select EVERYONE

5) then, in the bottom part of the window, select the checkbox for full control.

6) Now try to delete or move the folder to somewhere else.

7) restart your computer

8)Now run the downloaded Windows 11 ISO setup. (allow it to update and everything)

Thanks so much.

I'll give it a try. I'm so tired now it's probably best to wait 'till tomorrow. I have a good, working, up to date Reflect image so I can get back to where I am now.

Thinking about it, I could do a clean install to see if it's an I7 problem, but surely MS would find a fix for that? Then restore image and keep working, without updates, until I get a new machine and can do an orderly changeover. Although it's an expensive machine to junk after two years.

Now that's interesting. I did a USB restore using the 22H2 ISO from MS website and specified keep nothing. It rolled back to my existing system with the message...

0x80070002 - 0x20007
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during INSTALL_DRIVERS operation.

So I can't even do a clean install, or am I missing something?

Thanks, I have 10 Realtek folders but I can't make any changes, all greyed out. Could it be because I have the home edition.

This is crazy, I've tried safe mode, singed in as admin, but I can't delete or move anything. Is there a command to remove all nanny protections?

I was going to try the unsupported hardware option that requires a registry edit but regedit says I don't have the permissions to create a key under settings.... Aaarrrrrggggghhhhh. I bet it won't let me do it in safe mode either.

I didn't have all these problems with MSDos.

Did you try all 7 methods to delete drivers listed in the article posted in #19?

The only other suggestion I have is to use a live Linux distro to delete the files. I keep a UEFI bootable live Linux distro on usb for just such instances. You boot Linux from it and are given 2 options-to install Linux or run it from media. Then you can access the Windows drive and delete any Windows system folder or file you want to in a flash. Linux cares nothing about permissions.
I use Mint Cinnamon or Ubuntu but any distro will do.

The only other suggestion I have is to use a live Linux distro to delete the files. I keep a UEFI bootable live Linux distro on usb for just such instances. You boot Linux from it and are given 2 options-to install Linux or run it from media. Then you can access the Windows drive and delete any Windows system folder or file you want to in a flash. Linux cares nothing about permissions.
I use Mint Cinnamon or Ubuntu but any distro will do.

I tried all that I could but the Dos ones didn't seem to work. Also, I don't really know what I have to delete, it may not be Realtek?
